So who has the definitive way to lower MY voice's register?

Just curious. You should hear me about 5:15 a.m., whew...I can rock the walls with the low tones...can I keep it that way?

Toodles

Joe-

Funny you bring this up. I battle the same problem. 21 years of being a radio jock doesn't help either. Alot of what we all want to get from the lower regsiter of our voice comes from the strength of our muscles around the vocal folds. (Except for smokers I guess....I have no idea what makes them lower but I am guessin' it ain't healthy, eh?) I actually saw a voice specialist in Dayton for awhile when I was having trouble with my voice cracking. Found out that I indeed had weakened my voice alot by just doing radio. They started me on some vocal function exercises which I still do but not as regularly as I should. The most important thing about the exercises is technique and that took me awhile to learn. But after I did, and doing the exercises twice a day for about a week, I saw a major difference in how "low" I could get. My voice was more relaxed and stronger and I did not have to force it...which really doesn't sound good anyway. They won't deepen your voice...just make it stronger and more powerful. I have to keep doing these exercises on a regular basis because if I don't I tend to lose some of my vocal strength. It's just like working out. If you stop...your muscles soften up. Some people are blessed to have such strong vocal muscles and they don't ever think about it. Not me....I gotta always keep working at it. And a Mt. Dew addiction doesn't help. Infact it is more harmful on my voice than not exercising it. Still tho...I'll down about 2 a day...like a fool....who's just addicted to the taste......and wants to stay awake:-) So I try to stay away from it on the days I have sessions or am working on projects where I don't need a dry throat and mouth interfering.

You have a great sound and it is evident by your resume and representation that what you have works...and works well. Feel free to email me and I can mp3 you a copy of my exercise tape and give you info on my voice doc since you're not too far away. Thanks!

Glenn

Dan-O - I'm a decaf guy. Caffine gives me the shakes. Smile Not sure if that's still detrimental to a voice but I only drink it once every three days or so.

No worries about me stealing Dan's secret.,, He can have all that veggie-exclusive goodness! Although, that's a surefire way to take off some quick pounds for anyone wanting to.

Glen - Thank you for your kind words. Sounds like we have a lot in common. I've been doing the radio thing too for awhile and I have no doubt that I carry with me some less than desirable qualities in my voice that I picked up during those years. Vocal strength is definitely something I struggle with too, especially down low. I'd love to connect with you about those exercises. Time for vocal boot camp baby!

EXCELLENT thread.... lots of good advice that I'm glad to see. Smile

I'm currently working on the "sexy" voice. I'm finding that just a tad of whisper, just a tad, makes a difference in getting me to sound "sexy".

Awesome pipes... that's for sure. But, me thinks the person that produced his demo is an audio god! Steve?

Caryn - I find that the topic of the script is absolutely critical to getting that sexy read.

I don't think anyone can really hear you, Frank. We just feel you rumbling in our chests. Smile
