wondering if anyone has experienced this. I have had DSL for more than a year, and been extremely happy with it. In the past two weeks or so, once the sun goes down, it keeps reconnecting. I talked with tech support, and once I got them past the "script" they thought it was the modem/gateway. So $80 later I install the new gateway, and viola! same problem.
I installed it night before last. When I got up yesterday there were 63 reconnects. I was in court all day, came home and it wsa up for 12 hours and still 63 reconnects(so it hadn't reconnected all day) this morning I get up and 111 recconnects. I was on a bit last night and it went out a few times, it was up at the most 15 minutes at a time, most times less.
Now, I could see interference from a bad wire, connection etc, but that would be 24 hours a day until fixed. At least tht is how my logic works.
I'm going to talk to tech support again tonight, and ask them if part of the system is run on solar power... this is nuts. I have changed nothing in the house, and it ws working fine til, like I said, about 2 or 3 weeks ago.
Nothing obivious in the neighborhood has changed either.
anyone have a clue? something I might beat Verizon up about? and with my cable tv rates doubling in the past 7 years I am not a fan of Comcast, infact I'm awaiting FIOS so I can cut the cable umbilical. |

I have no idea what your root cause is but besides lack of sun, night time brings cooler temperatures, maybe affecting loose connections?? Also, around here Internet traffic picks up dramatically starting about 3 p.m. as kids and then working stiffs come home and hit the net.
That's all I got.

I found this on another board...
1. You have something unfiltered like: sat receiver, phone, alarm system, water meter (yes, some water meters report over the phone line).
2. You have a filter in the incorrect direction.
3. The wiring in your house is not good.
4. The wiring outside the house is not good.
5. You are too far away from the DSLAM to support the speeds you are signed up for.
I would start with checking the filters. If they all check out, then you will want to consider testing at your network interface (NID). Hook a line splitter directly up the the NID and run a SHORT phone cord to your dsl modem. Then run a phone off the other. Have someone give you a call and see if the connection stays up. If it still breaks, then I would ask for a line test. If the line tests clean to the NID, then I would ask them to drop your speeds. You might also want to ask if your DSL is set to "interleave". If not, ask support if they will change it for you.

Have you talked to other people in your area who also have DSL? Could be that there's something wrong with the switching in your area and at night, when 182,831,269 people are checking their MySpace pages, your provider's network gets "hiccupy" as I like to call it.
SBC / AT&T in this area (Chicago suburbs) is notorious for having flaky DSL (lots of disconnects / reconnects) and it seems to be worse at night.
Always fun to see your IM contacts "logging in" 47 times over the course of an evening _________________ Lou Zucaro

First of all...Welcome to the New AT&T! <g> Since we... BellSouth... (and I do mean the royal "We") were bought out by AT&T, the e-mail has gotten worse and I'm suffering more off line times. It isn't bad by any means. It's just that BellSouth was never down here. But if I call tech support, I have to be prepared to unplug everything in my house, change myr clothes and sing children's nursery rhymes...whatever is in their handbook to occupy time.
There is a web site named DSL Reports and they usually have AT&T areas of problems almost as quickly as they happen. You may also check for areas with "smooth rides" as they call it. |
