Hi guys,

I find that when I record into Audacity sometimes I lose files when I open it up later. The wave form appears to be there, but I hear nothing. If I try to open the .bak or .aup file I get a message that says file blah, blah blah is missing.

Anybody with similar experience(s)?

Craig

Craig-- how are you saving your sessions?

Are you using a separate HDD for your audio files? A separate partition?
Can you find your recorded media and re-link those files to your session?

Are you using the older stable version or the newer beta version?

Are your speakers plugged in and turned on and not muted?

(sorry, had to ask...done it myself...oops!)

interesting, I have a musician friend who has been having similar issues with Audacity .aup files becoming "corrupted" have you checked the Audacity forum?

I use the last stable version for some things and haven't encountered the issue, so can't be of much help in that respect, sorry.

I've been using the older stable version, saving to a 4gb thumb drive for now, not a speaker issue, part of a track will play then just nothing, then pick up again.

I haven't found an audacity forum, but I'll google it and see what pops up.

I appreciate the responses.

Found the forum!

Sounds like people are having a bunch of problems similar to mine.

Deirdre, one of the issues was openning a file on a different machine and the problem came up. When I went back to the machine I created it on it worked. This is even though both were saved on the thumb drive. I'll have to check around and keep reading that forum!

Thanks again for the suggestions.

If I understand what is happening this might help.

Audacity works with one megabyte chunks of audio. Check under preferences where you have the audacity temp folder set up, (it's usually in the Audacity program folder) Your .aup file may be refering to those chunks in the temp folder which would not be on your thumb drive. That would explain why they wouldn't be there on another computer but would be on your native PC where you created the project.

Hope that helps.
