OK, so I spent the $899 with CostCo online, and got the Toshiba Satellite with Core 2 Duo 1.73 GHz, 160 Gig HD, 1 Gig RAM, Pre-installed Web-cam (see new Courvo avatar at left), 15.5' glossy screen, Windows Vista Home Premium, DVD/CD Reader/Burner, yada yada yada.
This is a nice machine! I even like Vista so far!
I wish my parents had gotten it for ME when I went to college in 1970 -- I woulda been the envy of everyone on my dorm floor.... but darn!... there was no commercial internet, no HP printers, no bluetooth, no CD's, no DVD's...
MAN! I'm ancient!
'Just thought you-all might be interested to see how it all turned out.

...and he had to walk 35 miles to school every day - in the snow...
Sounds like a nice machine, and for nine bills... hey, sounds really nice. Congratulations to your daughter. (What a nice Dad).
Toodles

My folks felt sorry for me and bought me a horse so I wouldn't have to walk.
The horse went lame and I had to carry him, through the snow, uphill, bothways. |

You know what's funny...
That saying is actually true for me. Living in upstate New York, I used to walk to my high school every day. Rain, sleet, hail, snow...whatever. So from my house, the side road was a big hill I walked up to get to the main street which was straight until about 1/4 mile from the school, then it went downhill to the school itself. Sooooo...on the way back, there was the hill up and then down before my house.
Therefore, I actually DID walk to school, in the snow, uphill, both ways! (And downhill both ways, but that doesn't sound as good.) _________________ Donovan

Hey Donovan...
My school days sound a lot like what you described.
Our home was a hilltop way out in the sticks... and I walked a mile to the nearest bustop. So, downhill to cross the stream... and then uphill to the next hilltop and a paved road which was as close as the bus came to my house. Didn't matter the weather; rain, snow, sleet or hail... you just went. And as you have likely noticed... it was uphill going to school and uphill coming back home. Taa-daa... uphill both ways! _________________ . If at first you don't succeed, then bomb disposal probably isn't for you. |

I notice that none of you guys have mentioned the wolves.......who didn't have to avoid them on the way to school.....well I say school.....workhouse would have been closeer to it. Can you call a place where they make you sew things onto other things and then put them into packets a school? Just checking!!! _________________ www.davidmonteath.com

OK, I give the gift of PotPal this Saturday....wish me luck. If she doesn't like it... I'll just offer to give her my 5-yr-old HP laptop with a 20 Gig HD, and I'll keep hers!
