I'm sure someone out there knows the answer to this. I'm trying to create a new master disk for my demo on CD. I'd like to add my head shot as the album cover artwork. I've tried doing this with Roxio v8 and iTunes but it eludes me. Any ideas? _________________ T. David Rutherford

Avery has templates for their CD-case media.
I used to make all my own templates, but then I got ahold of Discus from Magic Mouse.
Dang!
I love that program. Loads of art included and the templates are spot-on.
for Mac and PC, including Vista. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Very interesting DB...
I've been using a program called exPressit with mediocre results. May be time to go shopping. |

I'm not sure, but I think T.David means album artwork within the audio file itself, not on the cover of the case or surface of the compact disc. If this is what you mean, it's fairly simple in iTunes on my Mac.
Select the audio file, then under "File" click "Get Info" (or just hit Command "I") and a separate screen will pop up giving you a "Summary" of details on your file. Then click on "Info" on the bar at the top of the box. This is where you can enter all of you pertinent info that you want attached to your audio file. Then you'll see "Artwork" on the bar. Click on that, then click on "Add" and you can search your computer for the photo or album art you wish to be attached to your audio.
I'm not sure how many people are viewing album artwork when they listen to demos at this time, but I'll bet the number is growing exponentially. Thanks for reminding me to do this with future distributions of my demo.

Yes, indeed. I'm talking about imbedding the artwork in the mp3 file. I think I can handle printing on the cd face. I use an Epson stylus photo r200 printer for that. _________________ T. David Rutherford

It's just an extra thing that I'd like to ad to the cd. I assume that many of the people listening would be using iTunes or a similar program, probably on a mac. At this point using iTunes to master the demo would allow iTunes users to see the album art, and other info, but other users would not. _________________ T. David Rutherford

you're giving me pause.
First, are you sure you want to copy MP3 files to your CD as a data disc? This will force everyone to listen to your CD on a computer. If this is really what you want, this is the only way to get album art to appear unless you are registered with the online music databases. To get album artwork embedded into an MP3, you need a tool to do it. I *think* iTunes will allow you to do it, otherwise a search for "edit MP3 id3 tags" will pull up lots of options. I don't recall which one I use, but I'll look tonight.
Second, if you're burning to an audio CD, I'd recommend using a raw WAV file instead of an MP3 since that is a lossy format. _________________ Jeff

Ah, yes. I guess I'm spending too much time in the details. I'll just keep it as an old fashioned audio cd and go from there. Thanks. _________________ T. David Rutherford

You can do a CD Extra or Mixed Mode CD - which works as a playable CD-A (Audio CD) and when the disc is in a computer you may have additional files or folders which may contain data information such as pictures, .pdf's, etc.
However, as this data track is the FIRST track on the disc, make sure you tell you clients to skip this track if they are playing on a standard CD Player or they will be in for a noisy surprise.
This may be accomplished with the Nero Burning programs. http://www.nero.com/enu/index.html
Good Luck,

I think he wants the "album" artwork to appear in iTunes or Media Player when the user pops his CD in the drive. And unless he's registered with the online music databases this isn't going to happen, from what I know. I don't believe creating a mixed mode CD will accomplish this either, else the labels would have done it and there'd be no need for the online music databases. _________________ Jeff

Yep, you are correct. Embedding the metadata with the .mp3 or .mp4 would accomplish this, but as stated, it would require computer usage NOT CD-A's.
Sorry, that is what I get for not reading ALL of the post properly.

Yep. I think I'll use a standard CD for my cd master and then add the extra stuff to my MP3's that I email out. Thanks for the help. _________________ T. David Rutherford

Yeah I do the same thing. If you download my demo reels (not play them in the browser), they have "album" art embedded in them. I do the same with auditions I send out in MP3 format. _________________ Jeff

In the end, it's the picture your demo puts in their head that gets you the gig, isn't it? _________________ Greg Littlefield

just because I can't put this topic to bed..... does anyone know how V123 reformats the audio you upload? I'm wondering if the album/pic info attached to an MP3 would be stripped out. Just a thought. _________________ T. David Rutherford
