All ya really needed to get it to work properly was to have an engineer walk into the room. got so common at my old station, he decided to leave a screw driver on the console. No more problems! |

In Adobe Audition, set the hard drive you're recording to a different hard drive, assuming you have more than one. What I learned from Frank is in Adobe Audition you want to record to a different hard drive than the one where Audition is installed. He recommended and I bought a separate external hard drive to record. Prices have come way down. _________________ Gregory Best

Greg, I'm curious about your post. I fix computers for a living, and know that external drives aren't near as fast as their internal counterparts, but what you're telling me is that with Adobe, it doesn't matter--that any USB/Firewire drive will help recording issues?
Kind of surprises me, that's all.

I know nobody asked me, but I use my extra internal hard drive with AA. Yes, I have 2 internal physical (not partitions) hard drives. Works great for me.
And, I, too thank Frank for this bit of advice. |

The issue is: use of resources with AA. Using an seperate internal/USB 2.0/Firewire drive; the computer focuses resources on the main (program containing) hard drive to operate the program, and minimal resources on the actual placing and storage of the audio being recorded.
USB 2.0 is the least speedy way to go, but it will work for most audio recording situations. If you are trying to record to more than (approximately) four tracks at a time - simulataneously - use a firewire or SATA drive. When recording for film, sweetening,or creating music I record up to 20 tracks at a time. With the SATA drive I do not miss a beat.
For voiceover, I do not record more than eight mono tracks at any one time... and that is with numerous talent. Most voiceover artists will not use more than two tracks at any one time. Music, SFX, stingers are placed on the timeline seperately.
Yes, these comments are directed toward a PC, however this trick also applies to a Mac with ProTools or any other editing program and DAW.
To record audio, the computer sees any incoming file as four times the actaul size of the resulting file. What the previous sentence means is: make sure you have plenty of room on your drive to record audio... you will need it and use it all.

Recording onto a different drive or separate partition should be the rule for audio recording.
The guys who helped me set up my system said it this way: You want to keep your audio files separate from your "housekeeping software". _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I also have 2 internal drives (heck, and an external one for backing up files). I've found it to be a good thing to record onto the "other" internal drive. _________________ Donovan
