I learned FORTRAN on a keypunch machine in the early '70's.

Me too, Deebs. And woe befell you if you tripped and dropped your card case on the way to the mainframe.

I can't forget my beloved original Compaq 'luggable'

When I was selling broadcasting equipment the company I represented gave me one. So nice trying to travel 12 states and get that thing through airport security. Most every airport asked me to open it, plug it in and turn it on. I would hate to think of the hoops one would need to jump through today.

Mine was a little kit built machine with a 1K memory.

Would that happen to be a Heath Kit? They really made some great things for budding geeks.

the illustrious Texas Instruments computer.

Ahhh, the TI 99/4a. Remember "Hunt the Wumpus"?

One of my last actual TV jobs was helping build the first independent TV station in Oklahoma City. We also built a first rate (at the time) production/post production suite for Blair Pro Rodeo. We used CMX editing equipment. One 6' rack (and a little more) full of electronics to control the switcher, audio console and video tape machines. Probably can do the same today with 3 RU worth of stuff.
