I wouldn't be able to believe that Sanjaya is still in the line up if it weren't for this:

Unfortunately, it's not just VftW (which has been around for years)...Howard Stern has been encouraging people to vote for Mr. Malakar for weeks...ever since the top 12 started.
There is hope, though...I'm pretty sure he hasn't been in the top 3 for a while, so even Stern's masses don't seem to be able to supercede the folks with an ear for talent, who've been putting Melinda, Lakisha and Jordin through week after week.
It seems like Melinda's gonna win, but I'm kinda hopeful that Jordin will egde her out...she's just such a sunny young lady, you know?
Oh, I forgot the third reason Sanjaya's still there...all the guys voting for him who are just hoping that they'll keep showing shots of his sister Shyamali in the audience _________________ Lou Zucaro

Well, I've watched two Idol shows in my life...last week and a few weeks ago because of all of the hubbub. I think our gal from Arizona, Jordin, is the closest to having any sparkle, any real engagement with the audience, but she's only 17. This season's crop just doesn't have "IT". There's not a future Idol in the bunch. Sanjaya's a nasty joke, even though his singing "wasn't horrible" last week.
I quit. I got MUCH better things to do.

Go Sanjaya Go! I hope he wins it all. American Idol is a farce anyway. Last year proved it. |

Once they start messing with MLB All-Star ballots, then I'll take action. _________________ Greg Littlefield

Most of the votes are being made by 14 year olds who vote for popularity... and have no idea what true talent is.
Taylor Hicks... remember him?... What's he done lately? Most of the time, the "also rans" end up getting more work than the American Idol. _________________ "Bailey"

Bailey,
I'll have to take exception to that. Taylor is a fantastic blues musician. I'm not sure why or how the whole American Idol thing happened but he's doing quite well even if you aren't hearing him right now. His audience shouldn't really be 14 year olds anyway.
I will admit I'm a bit biased as he is a friend of mine. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

And ironically enough, Hart, Melinda is a friend of mine! We went to college together; she doesn't live too far from me now. (She's also done a little voice work.) I am NO fan of American Idol (or even Reality T.V. in general) but I've been voting ferociously for her this season. She is so talented, deserves to go very far, and yep, she really is that nice in person. Funny, too!
I do like Jordan, as well, I just haven't voted for her. I hope she does well.
The whole Sanjaya thing is kind of sad, I think. It can't be easy knowing you're a joke on national T.V.... |

Yeah, I gotta disagree with people who say AI is a farce.
When it was first advertised (first season), we wanted to watch it because it looked like it was gonna be a trainwreck. The auditions were, in fact, just that...but as everybody now knows, a carefully crafted trainwreck.
The show hooked us and in six seasons we've never missed an ep.
This season is seriously pale in comparison to last...the trouble this year is that they either didn't have or didn't choose people who have that "it factor"...that sparkle of personality.
Regardless of what you think about each contestant's singing ability last year, think of the personalities that were in the top 12...Ace, Bucky, Chris Daughtry, Elliot, Katharine, Kellie Pickler, Kevin Covais, Lisa Tucker, Mandisa, Melissa McGhee, Paris and Taylor.
Out of those 12, ten of them had pretty strong personalities, and something distinct about them.
This year, the only personalities that really stood out have been Jordin (more of late than earlier on), Chris Sligh and Blake Lewis.
Plus at the beginning of last year, if you'd told me that either Daughtry, Katharine, Elliott, Kellie, Mandisa, Paris or Taylor was going to win, I could have seen it happening, either by vocals alone or a combination of vocals and personality.
This year, even at the top 24 stage, it was like "Uh, I can't imagine any of these people winning..." Soon after that, it became clear that Melinda, Lakisha, Jordin, Stephanie, Sabrina and Blake were the six best people...we were bummed when Sabrina was sent packing and Sanjaya and Haley made it to the top 12.
But whatever, the AI machine needed a cooldown after last season...it was inevitable. You can't have something that big, that hot and expect to top it the next go 'round.
Hopefully next year will be more like last year, because this year feels more like season 3, and I didn't like season 3. The only show so far this season that had the energy of last season was the Tony Bennett episode.
In general, though, I think some really good talent has been showcased on AI. Kelly Clarkson is seriously talented. I dig Clay's first CD. Carrie Underwood seems to be doing amazingly well, although I'm not into the CW genre so I don't listen. Chris Daughtry's a pretty talented guy, although again, his music isn't my cup of tea. Elliott's CD is supposed to be pretty good, too, although I haven't heard it.
P.S. Kudos to AI for last week's fake Tony Bennett audition video...that was really funny. _________________ Lou Zucaro

Brian... My statement about 14 year olds is relevant to this season's AI.
IMHO...Taylor Hicks is a good vocalist, but he appears to be staying within his comfort range.
I have been a fan of Melinda Doolittle from the git-go. She appears to have adapted in all genre of music outside of her comfort range... if there is one.
I personally feel that the top male and female contestants should share the AI title.
It's like comparing apples and oranges. _________________ "Bailey"

I will politely bow out. It's just a matter of taste ultimately. I am not in sync (no pun intended) with standard radio fare most of the time. I like more obscure bands and artists. |

Kind of fun, mindless fodder, reality TV, but that's entertainment. It takes your mind off things. _________________ Bobbin Beam

Man can he survive tonight's Bonnie Raitt redux fiasco?
My wife is all up in arms now. I think she might actually vote! |
