While I would love to have one so as to take it to a higher level, I'd rather finish my new VO area first and get the gear and DAW PC before going after "niceties"

And if you get a burner with LightScribe when you get / build your DAW, then you have a little nicety anyway, albeit not as fancy-shmancy as a color CD printer.

Them burners is cheap. I think the one I got for the DAW I'm building was $35 (it's SATA, too).

About 50 cents I think for CDs and 75 cents or so for DVDs.

yeah, the LightScribe discs are expensive per-piece, and the designs are no where near as attractive as the colored in variety. I have a Light Scribe and the Epson R320.
Ink is ink. Yeah, it may run if you spill coffee on it, but if you had a label you'd be boned as well.

I have to put in a third vote for the Epson "R" series.

Bought a CIS (Continuios Ink Supply) for cheap and have never looked back... no buying ink packs, no messy re-filling problems, no fuss - it just works.

Just recently found a great way to "seal" the discs for really cheap. It makes them water-resistant, and very glossy on silver or white printable's. Or, you can buy waterproof glossy ink-jet printables for about $0.75 each.

The Niagara Continuous Ink system never worked for me on my last Epson printer and I think I wasted about $600 and a year trying to make it work, I'm not kidding. I was mightily pissed off at the company AND at myself for taking so long to throw the damned thing out.
Just be sure your printer REALLY is compatible before you take that plunge. DON'T ASK THE COMPANY SELLING THE SYSTEMS. As far as they're concerned EVERY printer is compatible. Make sure your exact printer is being used successfully by someone else. My experience was a disaster.

Jeziss-- $600! I could have bought a washing machine.

Or a rifle...

Yes, I got lucky, knew several people who used the specific CIS I bought - before I bought the CIS. I also use pigment inks for better quality. Pigment inks are a bit expensive, but worth the extra cash.

The Epson line comes with proprietary software you can use. You can also use Photoshop but I've never tried it so I don't know the difficulty level. Let me rephrase that. I've used PS to create images and import them into the Epson software and that's easy. I've never tried printing directly from PS to a CD.

I actually create my template in Photoshop or Corel Draw, then import the pic into the Epson software for printing.

If the software supports a non-lossy format such as .png or even .bmp, you'll get a better picture. .jpg is a lossy format, Just a suggestion.
