Some producers don't know how to give direction.
Producer: "Just do it again"
Talent: "OK. Is there anything you'd like differently?"
Producer: "No. Just do it again"
Being the skilled professionals we all are, we learn to recognize when mental hip waders are needed, so we smile, and just do it again. _________________ Bobbin Beam

Director: "Philip, the read was spot on, but could you give it another go, replacing 'fake Rolexes' with 'copy watches'? We've already been sued twice this month..." _________________ Lou Zucaro

My Dad is a notorious prankster and was so at his job as an Art Director at a big firm in Detroit years ago...he used to put little jokes in the copy sometimes, assuming someone would catch it and get a good laugh. Once the copy read: "Let's talk turkey.." about a new car deal (his big account was GM) and instead, he wrote, "Let's talk Turkish" (even more interesting coming from an Armenian if there are any history buffs out there). Anyway, NO ONE ever caught it! And before he could point it out, it went to final print! He had to fess up before the ad was sent to the magazines or whatever! |

Yeap, kinda like the story Penny & James told about one of Harlan Hogan's sessions:
Director: "That was OK Harlan, but the read was a bit too BURGUNDY...I'd like it a bit more Rosé..."
Un-huh....so Harlan read it the same way and the Director's response?
"THAT's Rosé!!!"
Whatever!..Bring on the sacks of money!

Actually that was Eastern...I grew up speaking Western (or should I say "speaking" since I was never fluent) but am relearning Eastern now since all the Armenians I know are immigrants...and IN Armenia today, they speak Eastern. It's only we Genocide survivor descendants who speak Western (although I hear there's a move to standardize in Western, which makes little sense to me...) In Western, what I said would be:
Meine Hyeren yev Angleren g'hosem.
How do you know about Armenian dialects?? |
