Hey Liz,
If it's too loud and you have a deadline you can try Panetta Studios in Elmwood Park. He's a good friend of mine (Composer for Project T.E.R.R.A.) and has a great studio. PM me if you need his contact info... _________________ Tom Dheere - The "H" is Silent, but I'm Not!

...I was wondering if he had anything to do with T.E.R.R.A.!
Cool! Say "Hi" to him for me!

What's really fun is when you have home repairs going on or some such and you're trying to work at the same time...and they happen to not speak English and you're trying to explain that you need to record a commercial, and could they please not use powertools for like 10 minutes... and even someone who spoke English doesn't get that on the first or second try for some reason. I've had that happen here at home, and also when I was a TV reporter trying to do an interview or a standup! |

I've had the same issue with the lawn guys in my neighborhood. None of them speak English... they had no clue what I was trying to say to them.
I've thought about devising a schedule of when the lawn people come for the street (for each house) so I know not to schedule recordings at that time! On my list of things to do.
Glad to know I'm not alone. I wish I had a hermetically sealed studio. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

We actually had to do that at the last recording studio I worked at!
EVERY Thursday afternoon (I think it was Thursday) the lawn guys would come...and we knew not to schedule any sessions then...luckily they were pretty consistent!

Well, I have a Gretch-Ken Industries booth and I still have to yell at my 9 year old to turn the video games down and pause when the dogs start barking, etc....they're sound dampening...not sound proof. |

And even then it isn't sound PROOF, they say it just contains sound absorption...sound proof is even MORE expensive!
I had a client that insisted on recieving a very fast Saturday turn around. I told him that everyone in our neighborhood was out mowing their lawns, weed-eating, etc...he didn't care. Fortunately, the hum was extremely low (I'm lucky in that my studio is in the middle of the house). You couldn't tell at all really...UNTIL...I had to do a pick-up on a Monday morning...no hum.
Massive drop out...oh well...client was still happy...or at least a good sport! _________________ Threadjackers local 420
