The other day while trying to submit an audition, I recorded a sample with no problems,, but then some of the functions on my Sound Forge Audio Studio did not work. Specifically, EQ, Noise Gate, and several others. When I tried to select them, nothing happened. Normalization still worked. I've tried a dozen suggestions from the supplier to fix it, but none have worked. Any ideas, anyone?
Thanks

Hey Dave,

I don't know what the dozen solutions were but my first thought when problems arise in any application is to uninstall/reinstall (after first trying a reboot, of course). Since these are so very basic you have probably already tried them but that is my $.02.

From the Sony web site:

Quote:
Please Note: Using the default installation path is recommended. The default installation path for Sound Forge Audio Studio 8.0 is C:\Program Files\Sony\Sound Forge 8.0. Problems such as file format plug-ins stating they are expired or demo beeps occurring when you use Sonic Foundry or Sony audio effects can occur if, during installation, you change the install path to an old directory that holds your previous Sonic Foundry products. When you install Sound Forge Audio Studio 8.0, make sure you install it to a Sony parent folder.

Any help here?

Thanks for the ideas, guys, but been there, done that already. I've even tried using Windows System Restore to go back to an earlier date to see if whatever happened could be undone, and for some reason it refuses to do so.
Thanks again - anything else you can think of is appreciated.

Rich,

Very true, but Dave, if you're not familiar with FDISK, it's the Nuclear Bomb solution. (Blow up everything and start over, from installed the OS on up.)

On that note Bob, how many of us are using utilities like Symantec's Ghost?

Stuff like that can save you a world of trouble down the road.

Greg,

An excellent point. I was just concerned that if Dave wasn't familiar with FDISK, it was important for him to know that it's a very, very last resort solution. And yes, Ghost, Partition Magic and a number of other utilities can save one's bacon, big time. Assuming you use them BEFORE trouble rears it's ugly head.
(edited to fix typo)

Possibly stupid questions on my part, but...

It's not trial / demo / limited software in some way, is it?
-or-
It's legally licensed and not hacked / using somebody else's license?
-or-
It's not format-related is it? (like those functions work with some file formats but not others)

I'm totally with you (although there are applications that will recover data from a disk that's been fdisk'ed, even multiple times... but they're pricey).

I was just having an ADD moment and shot it out there, lol. Probably because I recently had to bring back one of my systems because someone managed to accidentally put on a really nifty piece of nastiness that is currently residing in my malware zoo.

yeah, I'm weird like that.

All - Thanks for the FDISK explanation, Bob - I was afraid that wa what it meant. I may try a local guy I know who is more knowledgeable than me first. Lou, my software is legal, liscensed, etc. I've been using it for months, and it just lost half its functions one day. I'm sure there's a perfectly logical explanation - if you were a computer...
