Hello all,
What would I need to do in order to apply for audiobook VO work? Flying to NYC is not an option at the moment due to Dubya's bright idea (# 2,765,987 if you're scoring at home) to have Canadians obtain passports to fly to the US. Which by the way, had passport printing presses running 24/7 to keep up with the demand (No baloney). At least a 3 month long backlog if memory serves.
But I digress. Just need to know which direction to go to find potential audio book work.

File this under "S" for sad but true. If you are looking for quality audio book VO work, with a pay day at the end of it, you do not find the employer, the employer finds you.
Have you researched the market thoroughly? To what extent does the work go to unknown voices? Out of the percentage of work that goes to unknown voices, how many have agents and got the work through them? Once you have the figure you should be able to work out the remaining figure, that's your market.
Your market is for quality audio book work for unrepresented, unknown voices. The route to these publishers is the usual one. Find publisher, get the name of the person responsible for the production of the audio version of their books, telephone that person and ask if you may send a voice demo.
An alternative would be to set up a website for authors offering them the chance to turn their written work into audio books for either a flat fee or for a profit share.

I second that advice. I'd also say that Philip's done his usual excellent job of breaking down the problem into its assorted bits. (How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.)
Let me just add this. My first audiobook job (landed before I took Pat Fraley's class), and my third audiobook job (landed after I took Pat's class) both came through leads I received via Voice123.com. My second audiobook job was from the same publishing company as the first job. My fourth audiobook job was through Voices.com. My fifth audiobook job was through relationships I'd established and nurtured across the years working as a professional voiceover talent. And if the current discussions bear fruit, the same will be true of my seventh audiobook job. (My sixth came from the same publisher as my third audiobook job.)
I hope this is helpful, at least a little bit.
