Hey guys!

Could you give me a quick price on how much you would charge for voicing a non-broadcast corporate video of 28 minutes/4,287 words please. The language is Russian.

Thanks tons!

PS How do I calculate how many words lay on a single/spaced page and how big the fond is being taken in consideration, margens, etc

A rough guess, I would charge about $600 for this job, depending on if they want me to edit it and if it's one file or many. if I had a specialty like speaking Russian, that's cause to charge even more since it's a niche that they'd have a problem filling with someone else. Your extra talents deserve extra compensation.

I assume that a double-spaced 1 inch margin 12 point font page has between 225 and 250 words.

Here's one way to do it...(this info was posted earlier in the forum...I'll save you some time searching).
------------------------------
Narration: by the word pricing

Narration boils down to roughly 150 - 160 wpm (words per minute). So for 2,000 words here is what I do: 2000/150wpm = 13.3 minutes of finished production. 13.3 minutes will take you 3-4 times that amount of time to edit and produce so let's call it one hour. Charge $500. including studio time and offer free adjustments to any mistakes I have made or a different inflection the client may want on a sentence or a few words. I would also give him 2-3 free corrections because it often happens that once the script is heard changes have to be made. I want him to return and be totally happy with his production.

Short answer on "by the word" pricing.
Narrations (dry read) Rick Gordon
Word Count Fee (one file) / Fee (multiple files) (in cents)
1-2000 = .30 / .35
2000-4000 = .25 / .30
4000-10,000 = .20 / .25
10,000-40,000 = .15 / .20
40,000 + = .10 / .15

With a total word count you can simply divide by 150 and then you will get total minutes then divide by 60 mins and you will get total hours of finished production. Then multiply total hours by 3 and you will get a really close estimate of how much time this will take you to record and edit as well.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another option...

Corporate Narration Rates
Here are normal corporate narration rates which will stand up to any Union (and this is scale) and really just makes good common sense.

Print this, post it, consider living by it.

Up to 10 mins - $350.00
Up to 20 mins - $550.00
Up to 30 mins - $750.00
Up to 90 mins - $900.00

+ Studio + Production

Here is something else you may want to save.

Word count divided by 160 wpm = final production length in minutes.

Hope this helps!

$750 sounds like a nice round figure to me... but I only speak English. Russian should command a premium to some extent I would think.

Hey, guys!

Thanks so much for the information.

I saved it for future reference. I gave these people an estimate of roughly 125-150 per single spaced page.

They said they'd confirm with the client and get back to me later if the people decide to hire me.

Frown Clients tend to be very cheap... usually they never return. Guess they want me to do it for a song..... bastards!

Thanks again... really

Paul

I just got a query from a producer stating the following:

Quote:
I listened to your nextcat demo and liked what I heard: particularly the "smooth and cool" mode. I'm producing an audiobook of 33 15 minute chapters on a limited budget. How much would you charge to record a chapter?

Should I use the same guidelines given Balky to quote this job?
