You could also put the word, pronunciation into Google. A medical dictionary is good, but it doesn't always have the latest info on new drugs.

Google is always the first thing I try. It seems to work 99 percent of the time.

peritrochanteric? Perry Tro can tear ick It would be in reference to the area around the top of the thigh bone. Specifically the large bump at the top. I'm not sure you got the answer to that or not.....but here it is. With medical terms people will pronounce them differently. Duodenum is a perfect example...some people say doo aw den um and others say do o deen um....
Next we'll work on the word locomotive....(it's an old joke)

This morning I typed - My car keys - where, into Google. Got the answer. Ozzie's asleep on them ...Amazing! Even displayed an image option.

What's even more amazing is that your dog appears to be copying your facial expressions! He's got that "I'm Banksey, and your lack of self-promotion savvy bores me" look in his eyes.

Thanks GP, I really appreciate the help. Mary was kind enough to provide an answer through PM which is why you didn't see it on here.

Steve... I'm still trying to come up with a response to that one.

Brian,

For all the kind words said about me earlier in this thread, Mary is the real medical pronunciation specialist on this board. I am not worthy to stoop down and untie her sandals.

I will add that while the free m-w.com site doesn't have all of these medical terms, at $30 per year, the full unabridged site is well worth it. I signed up for that service last year and will keep it. It's saved my bacon many times already.

And Tom is right, for many of the medical projects I've worked on, Dorlands seems to be the definitive reference used by the publishers, at least those with whom I've worked.

Bob,

Thank you very much for the tips. If this becomes the long term project I'm trying very hard to turn it into I'm sure I'll have to invest in those resources.

Hope you guys are having fun in Vegas.
