This just in from V123...

"I am looking for a mail voice, with a soft soothing read. It is for a sleep clinic and needs to put people at ease. "

Mistakes like that make me want to go postal.

I wonder if it absolutely, positively has to be there overnight?

Well, since it came to me, and I'm a girl, I can only guess that they really do mean "mail" and not male, otherwise I wouldn't have been included.

I don't know what a "mail" voice sounds like, but I was thinking about using the envelope tool in Adobe Audition.

We have been moaning and sniping a bit about improper writing of English by non-native speakers. The same goes the other way I'm sure - in order to write anything in Spanish, I would have to use the dictionary and the sentence structure would be incorrect.

However - what I have noticed is that some of the people I have been communicating with don't seem to care that the material they are asking to be recorded is not going to be effective. That's the part that amazes me.

In the case of mail vs male - lately my fingers have been typing it incorrectly in the rush to communicate. Sometimes I catch it, sometimes I don't.

My brother has been in Germany for nearly 30 years now and is completely bi-lingual - well, more than that since he teaches Master Classes in Spain every month. But my point is that his native born written English is now painted with the syntax of his new primary language - German. It is lovely and evocative - but very old-fashioned. At least in this case it is understandable, but it shouldn't be used for a long training program trying to teach IT techs how to install a new router.

If a client is willing, I enjoy the opportunity to help clean up the scripts that come to me. However, if the client is unwilling to admit that it could be better with a little script doctoring (in some a LOT of doctoring), then I prefer not to do it at all. It defeats the purpose and wastes everyone's time and money.

When posts contain bad spelling, improper syntax & grammar, I perceive that the post was put out hastily. In essence, the value placed on the post is diminished, and it makes me wonder how the client values talent, if at all.
Like many of the posts I view on that web site, heck, most are downright amusing! I have even printed out some of late to call attention to....like the high-powered delivery requested for radio spots, some regional. To be delivered in about an hour. The pay- $25-50.00 each. When I talk about this to some folks, they say, well it allows for anyone to respond, and noobs can get their feet wet. I must stop myself from ranting when it comes to this stuff. OK...I'll get off the soapbox now.
