Maybe this is a silly topic, but I thought I'd post...
Have you ever auditioned for a spot that you just couldn't stop thinking about? That you loved how you did it and LOVED doing the vo? And, you really hoped you won it...
If so, what was it, and why did you love it? Did you get the job? Did you use it on your next demo?
I auditioned for a job last night, and it was one of the most fun reads I've ever done. So much fun!!! Typically, once I audition, I forget about it... don't ever think about it again. But this one, I can't get it off my mind. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

Caryn....that's really cool! I had an audition like that a couple weeks ago....Loved doing it...so much fun and felt like there was no way I wouldn't get the gig. I didn't get the gig tho....but I should have.....I was AWESOME! (in my own mind.) hahahahaha _________________ TG2

Yeah I did one a few weeks ago like that. Most of the copy was forgettable, but there was a bit at the end that was so funny, and I laughed every time I played my recording back. I toyed with the idea of putting that part at the beginning, because I didn't think the client would even listen to the end. And yes, I do plan to put it in one of my demos when I have time... |

Quite the opposite. This one I wanted to forget as soon as I sent it off.
I was asked to play the part of a circus barker (hurry hurry step right u for a "Gentleman's Club" in Oklahoma. They had ... hmm... how do I put this gently... "less than tall" exotic dancers coming to perform.
I couldn't get through the script without laughing, and I never wanted to hear the finished product. Eww. _________________ Dave "Christi" Felton

HAHAH!! Dave, that's terrible! Ahhh...the things we do to pay the bills.
Caryn- fun topic!
I've only had one part so far that I truely wanted and begged for...for over a year!! Fortunately, I was cast and started recording last week. It will make it to air sometime at the end of the year...I'm a puppy!!!
There have been other gigs I wanted, but I can't think of any specifically right now. I'm pretty good about not wanting things too bad...lest I have to watch them go another direction!
I did have one, like Dave, that I was very uncomfortable about. It was for a local church. I gladly accepted the job, excited to do it. I didn't get the script until I was stepping up to the mic (in front of the founders). It turns out it was an 'alternative place'...I won't go into ANY details! I did the spot, and then promptly went to my own church for some Pastor time!!! I was always terrified someone I knew would recognize my voice and have some questions for me!!!! _________________ Threadjackers local 420

Quite a few years ago I went to a studio to record a car commercial. While I was there the producer mentioned that he was pitching to an ad agency for a TV campaign and asked if I would mind recording the demo audio track.
"If I get the gig, you get the gig!" While we recorded the car commercial he scribbled on a scrap of paper then rushed into the voice over booth and gave me the rough copy. He gave me some direction and the demo was done.
A few weeks later I got the call - "Come and do it for real".
The end product looked great as a fortune had been spent on post production visual effect. I'm sure some of you have heard this before but for those who haven't, this is the finished production.

Banksey- I can't wait to listen to your link. My firewall won't let me at the moment - darn corporations. I will listen though... I promise!
Kara - You're a puppy? For what?? How'd did you beg for the job? That's so cool!!!
Dave - that's a bummer. I don't know if I could've done that one. Interesting Kara... I never thought about what I'd do if something was sprung on me that I was uncomfortable with.
mcm and TGG - very cool!!! I'm glad I'm in good company! Funny you mention thinking of moving the funny part to the beginning. When I was editing the audition, I actually left some of the breathiness in - b/c it was a frantic woman and it just made the piece.
No idea if I got the job. I'm finding I really enjoy those parts that are "in character" a little more than the everyday read. Well, they're all "in character" -- this one was just a bit more over the top. FUN! _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

Just did one on Sunday for Capitol One...the Visigoth guy. It would be a kick to get cast in that one!
Having some luck lately with accents/characters. Got some glowing compliments from a producer in West Texas. Was in session with producer and agency Creative Director. They asked for an authentic West Texas accent at the last minute...in the session.
Gave it my best shot. CD's comment was "you sure you're not from here"?.
Nope...never been there. :) _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

Some years ago I auditioned to join the voice cast for the dubbing of the UK version of Iron Chef. The show was already a massive cult hit in the states, so who wouldn't want to be involved in that gig? That was the most nervous I have ever been in an audition. I got the gig though!
6 months and a whole season of recording later the channel it was supposed to go out on went bust, so it never went to air. After that, FujiTV decided to market just the US version as they had about 4 seasons already recorded. A pity really, Our version was way different from the one you may have seen. Much funnier methinks.
....oooh.....earthquake.......
OK, just a little one...back to typing.
Another gig that I've long wanted was the tag at the end of the Panasonic commercials. I don't know if it is used in the States -"Panasonic. Ideas for Life". Well, last year I landed a gig doing the opening and closing narration for a Panasonic sponsored TV program and, bingo, there it was. It wasn't quite the big bucks commercial version, but at least I got to do it for national TV.

I got to try for a job for my hero, George Sanger after I wrote him a fan letter.
On my website at that time it said "fluent dog barking" on the first page.
George wrote back to ask if I could bark "in key".
I never had, but I sure made a go of it!
Meows, too. That's the GoPets story. I got to see those guys at the GDC.

I just auditioned on camera here for the "meaty" role of a wayward Catholic bishop on a comedy series episode they're shooting in LA. The director loved it and said I'm in contention, but it's up to the Network to decide.
I loved being asked, I loved giving it my best, and I loved the director's comments. But I'm applying the Jeff Bridges rule big time..."My job is auditioning and that's it. My job is done. If they call me back, it's gravy."
It's also easy to not obsess because he told me the names of some of the A-list actors I'm up against. Holy sh*t.
Back to the phones. I've got some VO marketing to do.

I've just checked the SAG/AFTRA rates for auditions. Jeff Bridges must have family money. |

'Beg' might be the wrong word...more like 'wished really hard'! It's for the US version of Raggs...currently airing in Australia. I'm the US voice of the green puppy Razzles. Just the speaking voice- someone else does the singing. That's about all I can say just yet
I auditioned, got the part- and then had to wait over a year to find out if I got to keep the part (you know how it is when a show is new).
Here's the website...www.raggs.com
I love this character!
I did think of something I auditioned for- got- and then lost. It was the main character in a movie being filmed in SC (I'm not saying the name!). After being cast- they got us all together for publicity photos. I was 2 inches taller than the tallest guy! (And I'm only 5'7!) The character was a teen- and I was 26 at the time. Loved getting the call that I was too tall and TOO OLD!!! Oh well. _________________ Threadjackers local 420
