Hi,

I know this is an easy one... I've configured it before... but lost the settings and cannot remember how to get it back!! (My memory is totally lapsing at the young and tender age of 35!!)

In ProTools, you know how you have to have the "volume" control adjusted to
-INF when you're record enabled (so you can hear yourself thru the headphones and not hear echo) and at 0 when you're not (to hear playback). How can I get ProTools to SAVE my settings for those two features so I don't have to play with it every time?

Also, I seem to have lost the option to bring up the "volume" control box when in edit mode. There used to be a little teeny volume control picture to the left of my edit window, and now it's gone (I was playing around with Pro Tools yesterday, attempting to load version 7.1 - didn't load it though... at all, but for some reason my settings got all screwy).

MANY THANKS for your help in advance!!!!!

Caryn

I don't recall having to do what you're saying Caryn. But I have my headphones plugged into my mic pre and not my computer. I have a Mac Pro and not a PC so that may play a part.

Sorry, I should have provided more detail.

I have a PC with an MBox2 and ProTools LE 7.0

Hmm... I had to do it before, and had someone walk me thru it. I should've written it down. Rolls Eyes

Not sure if it's exactly what you're talking about (I used PT Free, but haven't used it in a while), but I used to just keep the virtual fader mixer set to "0", and just toggle the mute button in the edit window next to the record enable button; mute when recording, un-mute when editing.

Set up a Pro Tools session the way you like it, then save it as a template. Then just open your template when you are starting a new session.

I would just mute the channel rather than playing with the fader.

For recoding vocals, I will plug my mic pre's line output into the mixing console and then take the direct output (post fader, post EQ) of that channel, into my interface (Rosetta 800 AD/DA w/ fire wire option). The artist can then have a zero latency mix of the vocal, as he/she is listening to the headphone output of the console. When we listen back, I un mute the recorded channel to hear the take.

The MBox 2 has a control called "MIX" on the panel to the right of the headphone level control. Just turn it all the way to the left for zero latency monitoring of the mic, or all the way to the right to monitor ONLY the output from Pro Tools (post processor with latency). No need to play with faders in Pro Tools.
