MIAMI BEACH - Sometimes work can take you to places you never thought you'd go. Miami Beach is one such place and it is the location from where I am writing this this moring. While I am on a sales and marketing assignment, I didn't bring any recording equipment because the schedule I was given for these business meetings showed I wouldn't have the time to devote to voice over production. However, I am a bit of a planner.

Everytime I travel to a city, I check and see if there are any of my fellow voice over pro's nearby in case of a VO emergency. I also find it's a great way to meet my fellow pros; heck, we can always grab a drink and share some war stories too if there aren't any projects that need attention.

I'm sure glad I found Doug Turkel and his Miami based voice over business He could not have been nicer and more welcoming. We spend about two hours chatting about radio, VO and babies (two prouder papas you couldn't find anywhere but in Miami yesterday Sticking out Tongue ) Doug is not only a talented VO in his own right; he also works on air and in production for the South Florida cluster of Clear Channel radio stations. VO is full of terrific people and I can now add Doug to that list!

Many thanks to Doug.

MIAMI BEACH - First of all, let me point out that the weather in Buffalo on the day that "work" brought Peter to South Florida included a 100% chance of precipitation, and a low of 19 degrees. Farenheit. I don't even know how many layers one needs to stay warm in that kind of hell-has-frozen-over weather.

I'm a Miami Beach native. 50 is frigid for me. But I digress.

I usually jump at the chance to show off my hometown when given the opportunity, and even more so when the showee is someone I can talk shop with. And man, did I hit a homerun with Peter. Not only is he the talented, versatile VO guy you've come to know him as, but he's somewhat of a branding and marketing expert, too. Better yet, he's more than willing to share his knowledge (not to mention pictures of his beautiful baby girl!) at the drop of a hat. He was throwing terms like SEO, metatags and trackbacks at me faster than I could jot them down for the purpose of looking them up later.

He's obviously very passionate and knowledgeable about what he (we) does (do). And despite his subtle misspelling of my name, Peter more than repaid me for the use of the studio by sharing a wealth of information.

Anyway, we got so caught up talking (shocking, I know) that we never did get around to that drink, so Peter, I still owe you one. Next time I'm in Buffalo, sheilding myself from the numbing, sub-arctic, frostbite-inducing frigidity, I'll make it up to you.

Having had the chance to meet one fellow VO-BB'er makes it even more dissappointing that I won't be making out to VOICES this year to meet a whole bunch more. More incentive for next year, I guess.

So to Peter, thanks for being such "Good People," and for taking the time to come to the studio. And to Dierdre, thanks for building us this big little community!

Meee? Mak uh misstake? Empossible. Get ur glazze3s fikzed. Fonics is mi strung poind!

Here's my wacked out scheduled....I think I wrote that copy at like 1 am and posted it the next morning because my eyes were burning so badly from lack of sleep.

And I have returned tonight (or this morning actually) with an hour plane delay, a 1/2 baggage delay and a 1/2 hour in the airport parking lot trying to de-ice my wife's car which conveniently didn't have an ice scraper with which to scrape off the 1/4" of ice that had built up since my departure. But it eventually thawed enough to break the driver's side windshield wiper so I drove hope in a freezing rain storm with no visibility. It made it all the easier to slide like a greased pig on the road in front of my house only to gain control a few moments before hitting something solid.

Which is more than I can say for a guy whose car I witnessed bounce off a parked car on my street as I was hauling my luggage in my house.

All in a days work Shocked

Best regards
Peeder

Oh Peter...I've been there....2 weeks - yes two weeks - after I got my driver's license (I was from NY City, what did I need a driver's licence for till I was 26 years old?) I drove what should have been a two hour drive but turned out to be a 6 hour drive in a blizzard up back roads to our cabin in Upstate NY ...having to stop every 10 minutes or so because although the winshield wipers worked they developed chunks of ice the length of the entire wiper blade so visibility was nil!

...all this in a used manual 5 speed Honda! I won't drive anything but stick!
I can now drive in ANYTHING!!!!

...and it was great that you & Doug had a nice VO-BB meet-n-greet!
