A friend of mine had this card laying around his garage and I thought I'd share it with the VO-BB family.
Take a look at the opening act!
enjoy!
Jeffers
I just thought it was cool!

You're kidding, right?
Google is a wonderful thing.
Here's the dope on the opening act: Frank Welker. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

My favorite passage:
"As of August 2, 2006, Frank Welker has surpassed Samuel L. Jackson as the all-time highest box office draw in the history of motion pictures, having brought in a total gross of $4.690 billion at the box office."
Doesn't "box office draw" require a certain level of name recognition? _________________ Greg Littlefield

Wouldn't the contemporary term be "render" for the animation use of that word? _________________ Greg Littlefield

He might have done stand-up comedy.
I've seen a number of LA character VO's at The Comedy Store.
. . . and it's not unusual to have a comedian before a top musical act. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Okay I am now picking up my chin off of the desk!
Yes he was the opening Comedy act before Sonny & Cher for that run.
When I told my coworker I was looking for a Demo Real of Frank Welker he asked me, "Who? You mean the comedian?" I answered, "No... The master of vocal effects for film and television!" He just smiled and said, "Oh!"

From the book... The Magic Behind the Voices:
Quote: | Book Excerpt:
As his voice-over career was taking off in the 1970s, Welker continued to work on-camera, appearing in such shows as Love, American Style and The Don Knotts Show. But his experience as a stand-up comedian once again earned him a coveted role when, while he was performing his act at the Comedy Store, Paul Keyes, the producer of Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, spotted him and asked him to appear on the opening show of the season with featured billing. |
