Here are some shots of my lovely Whisper Room.
It weighs roughly 1,000,000 pounds, but it's on wheels in case I need to move it around for vacuuming or whatever.
I attached a simple shelf on the outside to hold my PowerBook and an external hard drive. I put another one on the inside to hold a wireless keyboard and mouse and my MBox.

Damn...when did the gravitational constant change?

Trust me: The real exaggeration was the part where I mentioned vacuuming. |

It's glass.
I don't have any issues with reflections, but I haven't done anything special to prevent them. |

TC,
I like it...very well constructed.
Two questions.
Is that a flourescent light above the window? Usually they give off a distinctive whine. Yours?
Also, ventilation? What do you do for that?

You're right, it is a fluorescent light. Doesn't make any noise at all.

It came with an elaborate ventilation system that's baffled from here to Sunday. If you look at the bottom of the second picture, near the bottom of the copy stand there's a black round thing that looks like a pop filter sort of hanging in mid-air. It's actually the hole through which the ventilation system brings in air.
Unfortunately, the ventilation system, unlike the fluorescent light, does make noise. Too much noise to record with. I don't even bother using it. If I'm in there for extended periods, I take breaks every 15 minutes or so and open the door.
I imagine the ventilation system isn't so disruptive in the larger models, but this one is only 4 x 4, so you can't put the mic anywhere that it won't pick up the noise. It's not the fan that's the problem, it's the actual "whoosh" of the air moving through the system.
One of these days I may pull it apart and try to mess with the baffles and see if I can address the noise. Right after I finish vacuuming. |

You're right, they do. Without those hats, the whole thing would plunge through the floor. |

wow...I did know somethin!
Seriously, you have a great set up...the placement of your lap top was very innovative! I really wanted to go down the Whisper Room or Sound Sucker road. When I was looking at options, my wife told me that the whisper room looked too much like a coffin. Being the creative guy I am I then tried to use a different angle and told her that would work out even better...she wouldn't have to make another investment when the good Lord called my name...but obviously that tactic didn't work either. Even if it did, I just wouldn't have anywhere to put it. So on to plan B. However, I think my wife is now a little envious. She has been telling me that it is unfair, she wants her own "padded room"! |

She's right -- the thing is ugly. There's no way around that.
I'll bet her padded room will be very tastefully decorated. |

Ugly or not, if it's a making money box, my wife won't mind much. _________________ Joe Rodriguez, Bilingual Voice Actor | The Voiceover Thespian Blog |
