"SANTA MONICA, Calif. (Jan. 30, 2007) — In an historic GRAMMY® moment, the Police (Sting, Stewart Copeland, and Andy Summers) will reunite and perform together for the first time on the GRAMMYs when they open the 49th Annual GRAMMY® Awards telecast on Feb. 11, it was announced today by The Recording Academy®. With five GRAMMY Awards to their list of accolades, the Police, one of the most famous bands in the world, create a purely original sound by infusing reggae with pop and rock — a sound that will be heard around the world from the GRAMMY stage."

I remember, a very long time ago, when the Police played my local 500 seat theatre in the UK. They were part of a Virgin records UK tour promoting several of their newly signed bands.

For some reason, I didn't go.

David Bowie played there once as well in the days before he was even called Bowie.

Ah, the memories.

Oh before they hit the big time! Who can ever forget the fab three, Diana Ross and the Supreme, Aerojones, Led Barage Balloon and of course Frank Sinatra who kept the name just changed his PR consultants. If two men called Vincenzo Chianti and Luigi Mascapone knocked on your door at 3am and told you to buy 3,000 copies of "My Way" what would you do?

I've already been informed that I will be going to see them at the reunion tour... regardless of my own wishes.

(I like to let her think that I don't like them so she has reason to let me get some new gear Bitchin )

Here's a bump for VoiceTom...wondering if you're a 'Legacy'member. Read on:

LOS ANGELES - The Police, who are reuniting to perform at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, will celebrate their 30th anniversary at the Whisky A Go Go the following day.

To enter the drawing for a spot at "The Police Rehearsals," fans must be "legacy members" of Sting's official Web site, Sting.com, the 55-year-old singer announced in a posting Wednesday. Twenty lucky winners will be notified Friday.

"After the event, we would like the winners to each submit to us 250 words that describes their experience of the day _ we can say with some certainty that none of you will be lost for words!" the announcement said.

Sting helped snare me my present wife. She has always been a huge Sting/Police fan and for many years one of my "other" jobs was as a security supervisor at a major concert venue here. I was in charge of the lower house right in front of the stage. While we were dating her and her sister were coming to the show and had tickets on the lawn. Well, having been around a while I knew a few things. The first 3 rows are flexible, meaning sometimes they are there, sometimes they aren't. What I did was add 2 additional seats to the third row on one end and brought her and her sister down so they could see him up close and personal. She still talks about that show.
One thing she always comments on, "Wow, is he SHORT!"

Of course I remember The Fixx. They were the first band I ever saw live. I saw them at this little venue in Utah at a ski resort. It still ranks up there as one of the best concerts I've ever seen.

When I met Andrea, her favorite jazz pianist was David Benoit, so I mentioned that I had interviewed him when I worked at the radio station in college. I think that's what hooked her. Smile To this day, she's the only person outside of the listening audience and those present in the studio to hear that interview. I was a *little* noivous.

Oh, and in the interest of shaking this threadjacking rep... I'll pass on the Police tour and just wait for the DVD to come out (because you KNOW there'll be one later in the ¥ear...). I'll bet the Fenway seats will be pricey.
