What Guerilla PR guru Michael Levine has to say about this stunt.

I think that pretty much every marketing firm, guerilla marking firm, and PR firm has flat out referred to this as a boneheaded stunt (with the caviat that it might succeed in spite of itself) speaks volumes to me.

Another deafening silence is that no one from the actual marketing firm that thought this one up has made any comment save for the typewritten one given the press. When approached by the press, they've threatened to call the police (which is a bit ironic considering their staff trespassed to put up some of the signs).

There are certainly risks with publicity stunts. But look at the ones that paid off:

Janet Jackson's and Justin Timberlake's careers sure gained more than they lost after "Nipplegate"

As vile as he his, Donald Trump's fortunes, along with Rosie's, have risen because of their "spat"

---

Then there are promotions that didn't do so well:

That radio station's "How long can you wait to wee to win a Wii" contest

And Wendy's "Get a Free Thumb with Every Order of Chili" promotion

--

So go ahead, try that big VO publicity stunt with the gallon jars of mayonnaise...but ya gotta ask yourself just one question...ya feelin' lucky, punk?

and now this little tidbit:

http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2007Feb07/0,4670,SuspiciousDevices,00.html

They apparently were able to ID at least one of the two guys charged as being at at least one of the scenes. Instead of informing the police, they caught them videotaping and laughing at the scene (the last part care off of a newscast last night, so it is without verification).

I'm sure that revelation will not help them in their case.
