I don't know if you guys encounter this type of attitude a lot, but being involved with the communities of practice that I am with grants me the unfortunate privledge of seeing just that on a near daily basis.

What confuses the hell out of me is that I am an unknown, so why would they be bothering me...?

On another board I frequent, I just finished trying to get through to a person who is under the impression, that the type of discourteous behavior illustrated by the OP's subject is actually encouraged.

It simply boggles the mind.

Remember, while arrogance is often mistaken for confidence, the two are dramatically different.

Thankfully such characters seem to be a rarity in our profession. At least among the VOs that is.

Having written that you shouldn't forget to have fun, make friends and that if you see a man selling Coke you're Bowling in the wrong direction.

Quite so. I figure that my investment in the event itself certainly will return under the X10 rule above. All the other expenses for the week get filed under submitted-to-the-taxman-as-a-professional-investment-but-was-actually-just-about-me-having-a-good-time-and-making-new-friends-and-getting-to-see-a-part-of-the-world-I've-been-wanting-to-visit-for-ages-and-hey-what-else-am-I-going-to-do-with-my-V123-dollars-anyway?

The VO world is small enough that one's reputation could very well be one's most valuable asset, on par with one's ability.

I've said it here before: No one ever needs to work with an asshole twice.

Good thing universities, colleges, and trade schools are all free!

(I'm going for the penny slots and the cheap buffets. If I happen to meet anyone I like, or learn anything new, that will just be a bonus.)

One way or another this person will pay to learn, indeed may already have paid far too high a price.

Frank....if I'd have known you were going to share my email with everyone, I would have added a few more names to the list. I know better than to send you another email in confidence. hahahahaha. JUST KIDDING...It wasn't me I swear! I'm a little offended that he didn't include my name among the greats in his email. Imagine that. sigh

Being arrogant & unknown: $ Image
Being rude to those in a position to help: $ Reputation
All of the above: $ Probability of future work

Paying to learn (the hard way): Priceless

I hate to do it, but the best quote for situations like this came from Wesley Snipes...

there's always one mofo trying to skate uphill...

Thank you all.

It IS interesting that someone without a clue has the brass to write such an inspiring email.

Would I ever hire this ... uh ... uh ... I am still thinking of an adjective ... uh, ...person. Not likely.

Banksey, thank you for the inspiring words,

TGG, no it was DEFINITELY NOT you. I knew that.

VoiceTom: There are definitely great plans ahead for VOICE, I am not at liberty to say much more. (It depends on my budget...). Like I have stated, I am not in this for the money. It would be nice, but that is not the reason.

Your support and thoughts are always welcome. I really do appreciate them.

Toodles

Frank... I'm a little late putting my 2 cents worth on this thread... but I had to do some research. It was quite an eye-opener. It's a shame that a few people with "heads bigger than their voices" have taken over the "other" forum.
(... hope that doesn't get me in trouble.)

There's another Voice Over forum? I was under the impression this is the only one. Wink

Amazing the arrogance of some people. Those are the ones that don't need a compass to know which way the wind shines.
