I don't know. I've learned it's sometimes best to tell them the obvious. Years ago when I ran the theater in Tempe we had a modern furniture store on the street floor below us that decided to go out of business. They hired one of those liquidation firms which brought in tons of furniture from somewhere else to sell as well as the remaining stock. Business was slow the first few days but then I noticed they put up two big paper signs in the windows that said "AIR CONDITIONED INSIDE!". Of course they were air conditioned. Every business in the desert is air conditioned in June! But, lo and behold, they were packed from then on and sold everything out (including extra truckloads) in 10 days.

Sometimes you have to tell them the obvious.

From my current 4 word slogan I'd pick "rich, flexible, expressive".

I must say "buxom" certainly caught my "ear".

This is like Dick Orkin's "Immitation Hawaiian Shirts" ad.

Well, maybe it isn't.

The "Air Conditioned Inside" worked not because it was stating the obvious but because NO ONE ELSE was saying it! So in the imagination of the viewer, your place was the coolest in town.

Of course it is!

And because they were the ONLY joint in the viscinity with the sign, it had impact.

When everyone under the sun is "warm" "smooth" "mature" "versatile" etc, your use of the very same descriptors has none.

Deirdre,

I've heard this phenomenon called "mental teflon" to describe how some words just don't stick in the mind at all.

In advertising yourself, yes, this is not how to separate yourself. BUT, when it comes to meta tags on your web site or in your voice descriptions for the voice casting web sites you better have those listed. We may have creative ways to describe how we sound, but people in search of a voice are most likely not to be as creative in their keyword search. Do you want to be left out when someone asks for a "smooth" voice?

meta tags are one thing, but being asked in person is another...

I still find that versitility is one of the strongest assets one can have as a voice actor.

Ludicrous.
Putrid.
Immaterial.

The above describes not my voice, but rather my feelings about this exercise...

(Okay, after a long day during flu season, they could well be about my voice.)
