				| When I first started one of the main jobs for a "Jobbing Voiceover" was to get in the car and travel to local commercial radio stations around the UK. In the Midlands one of the stations had a production dept called "That'll do Productions". In our business at the sharp end for most customers "That'll do" is good enough! One regular trip for me was to Pirate FM in Cornwall, 300 mile round trip. In 1992 the union rate per script for Pirate FM was £13.75 and a tag change attracted the full fee. My session including tags amounted to 26 scripts or £357.50 which, adjusted for inflation, now would be £891 or north of $1,000. Hoorah! Was I a great talent who paid it forwards? Did the craft honor me like an honored thing? Was I trained by the best of the best of the best? NO! Commercial producers heard my work and concluded.
 "That'll do!"

Will I continue to honor the profession and master my craft? No, never did and it was never my plan. Just trying to pay the bills a bit like a girl in a School Bus somewhere in ...

				| A bit like all the kids who made it in the IT revolution; they all started with nothing except a Harvard degree, connections and a trust fund.
Most VO people start with nothing and stay there, if they're lucky.

Fixing up her bus so audio engineers and producers can yell at her for moving her mic too much and not having consistent quality. That made me snort when I realized. Good luck to her, though.
