Perhaps some day we can release a retrospective:

Wow. Whenever I tell someone what I do for a living, they immediately launch into the "Me Show," going on about how they always wanted to do voiceover, how their mom/spouse/book club loves their voice, or how many cartoon characters they can mimic (and sometimes, God help us all, they start to demonstrate). Sometimes I get their community theatre resumes. I'm not sure the sentence following, "I'm a voice actor," has ever included the word "you." Count yourself fortunate, my friend!

				| Karyn, it's the way you hold your hand on your forehead and lean in--they assume you're fascinated. _________________

				| Dang, Jack. It makes total sense now.
I'll have to work on my disdainful aloofness.

				| Since I've never had a big, impressive voice (I instantly skip any audition whose specs include the word "gravitas"), when I tell people what I do for a living, I'm most often met with a confused or disbelieving look and a cocked head.
People usually change the subject pretty quickly after that.

				| When I was dressed as an Airline Pilot no one ever asked. NO ONE CARES ANY MORE!
A few years ago the sweetest girl ever was looking after me in a restaurant at London Heathrow Airport. She was telling me about her fear of flying. Not a great thing for a girl from Brazil who went home to visit family on a regular basis. As she flitted to and from tables I would ask her questions about her fear and explain what happens and when.

Time for me to leave. My little girl rushes to my table, throws herself at me and holds me tight.

"You are my HERO! Thank you!"

Well intentioned and a lovely thing to do. The restaurant is open plan, in departures Terminal 5 Heathrow. BUSY BUSY BUSY. I am dressed like a Pilot. I INVENTED the concept of introversion and everyone in the entire world saw and heard what happened. People smiled and nodded in approval. My death was that of 10,000 steps. Funny old day.

				| At the annual VOX gathering shortly after the war a group of VO peeps were chatting in an animated fashion whilst sipping drinks. The dynamic and fluid nature of the conversation meant that ears and mouths were being used in the correct ratio. Exchanges proved so trivial and entertaining that I do not recall anything in particular said by anyone. Then Robert joined our ensemble.
"I once did a corporate for BA (British Airways)!" he interjected with a level of enthusiasm worthy of an 8 year arriving on his new bike.

"Mmmmmhaven't we all Luv" Laura replied with dismissive a roll of the eyes.
