Response from people to the following was, for the most part an "air punching" YES!

Whilst true it was typed somewhat vacantly while I waited for my printer to decide whether or not it cared for the script I wanted it to print.

"What helped most to get my voiceover business off the ground was having no inheritance or trust fund, no wealthy partner/spouse, no source of free advice or training but a willingness to blunder around buggering things up until ..."

"Necessity is the mother of invention."

or if you're from the Woodstock generation: "Necessity is a mother!"

Very rarely you'll find people who will spoon feed you bits of helpful information on your quest to learn the the thing we call VO, and you might even find a partner who makes enough money to keep the rent or mortgage paid during lean/learning times, but yes, ye and ye alone are the best source of the information investigation.

Almost all of us here who've "made it" did so with inquiring minds, a good ear for what works, and some pretty foolish assumptions along the way.

You can't win if you don't play.

no wealthy partner/spouse

however - an understanding, helpful, slightly demanding spouse can make all the difference.
