Agree with Deebs. Yes, bandwidth and hosting does cost money, but a hunnerd-fiddy is too steep.
OTOH, there's no shortage of prospective talent knocking on agency doors. The only way to discourage the practice is boycotting the agencies...and the chances of people doing that en masse are about as high as my landing an Oscar date with Nicole Kidman. _________________ Great Voice. I'll post your demo for only $50 a piece. Of course I woun't guarantee any work... but HOLY CRAP! $150??? No WAY!
The job of an agent is to believe in your talent enough to market you. Then you make money and THEY make money. (If I'm preaching to the chior, then so be it!) _________________ Dave "Christi" Felton

Welcome to the world of Reality vs. the Entrepreneur.
Many of these sites are owned and operated by folks who are not nor have been in the VO business (in my opinion).
An offer by one of these so-called companies to do some "email marketing" resulted in three charges: one, to do the email campaign; the second, a percentage of my sales if the email campaign actually succeeded; and the third, space on my site to advertise their services. What part of stupid do I have written on my forehead, I have been in front of the mirror a hundred times looking for the tattoo... still have not seen it.
I agreed I would be interested in the email campaign, but to take a percentage of sales IF they did the job as contracted is not something I can agree with, would you?
Be careful what you wish for folks there are those who want to take your money at every turn.
(Oh, I did not agree to use their services, in case you were wondering... I did ask if they got people to sign up for their site from my sites referral, did I get a commission?)
Now, (he says facetiously) - about offering to put your demo on my site for $50.00/year USD, I also require a 20% commission off every gig you get... and you have to advertise for me on your site, all corrospondence, and even your business cards. Any takers...?

Absolutely right DB! First, get me some work to justify your $50 or $150 fee and I'll pay. But in most cases you'd have more luck buying lottery tickets.
Web space is getting cheaper by the hour ($25 a year for 75 MB of space and 3GB bandwidth a month) and Wordpress makes it where almost anyone can create their own web site in a short time.
I wonder the percentage of people that have gotten work from seeing your web page links on VO-BB than from Voice 123?
