What do you do about this?

Computers, various audio gear, mics...all adds up, but I think I'm paying too much for a small business policy that includes coverage for building, damage liability, personal injuries, etc. It's just me and it's all remote and I can't damage someone elses's facility from here Smile

The replacement cost of the equipment most of us use gets to be less every year so over-insuring those items would be wasteful I suppose, and since most insurers consider working “tools” can’t be covered by a home policy this is one cost you have some control over. If you rarely have visitors then your homeowners or renters insurance probably would cover you for liability ... ask an insurance specialist to help guide you there.

In my experience coverage through a rider on your home policy is cheaper than a separate small business policy.

I'd second the rider to home policy. You could also consult an accountant as to what works also to help with deductions. If you don't have clients coming in regularly the personal injury liability is a non issue. Just have something to cover your equipment in the home policy.

Does a $ 5,000 limit with 1K deductible sound standard?

If everything is stolen or burns up will that, in combination with your reserves, get you back in business?

I have a $30k policy to cover the equipment through State Farm. Cost around $300 a year.

Thanks guys.

Bruce, not really, nope.

Dan, that sounds like a good plan, I'm paying 30 percent over that, and getting coverage for things that I don't need, like building and medical liability for people coming to my location...which happens, never.

I'd better get on the phone!
