Dave makes some great points!

A rough approximation of my VO jobs for '06...

0% V123

10% Voices/formerly IV

20% Unsolicited client inquiries from my website

70% Direct cold call/e-mail marketing

If I judged my worth/abilities/talent solely on the jobs I've won through the pay sites I would have thrown in the towel long ago.

Wow! That's very interesting. I'd be interested in a graph showing the average percentage of VO jobs for everyone on the site using those choices. Maybe tack on one or two more, such as if you have an agent, what percentage comes from that.

Thanks for your insight Tom.

The pros on the board would likely have a much different breakdown.

Not really all that different for me...so FWIW...

0% $ from V123.

0% $ from Voices/formerly IV.

0% $ from my website.

20% $ Referrals from current clients.

20% $ from my agent.

60% $ Directly marketing myself.

Obviously, what works for one person may not work for someone else. That's the point...none of us know what will work best for us unless try different approches. Just keep throwing mud against the wall until you find out where it sticks...then focus your efforts there.

One of my best clients came from taking an acting class. Someone called the instructor asking for help finding a voice. The instructor gave them my name (and why not I was the star pupil Wink Another of my best marketing tools is the local Chamber of Commerce...which I would have never thought would work for me.

There are plenty of surprizes out there for each of us to discover...you just gotta get out there!

In an earlier post in this thread I told you about that one gig I got from Voice.com that has not paid in 2 monthes...well, last night I finally got it. So, this breaks me even for paying for my memberships on both V123 and Voice.com.

I guess they felt sorry for me for paying late and threw me a bone, because they asked me if I was interested in another gig. Now that I know they eventually pay...lol...I'll do it. Laugh Sticking out Tongue
