You are both wrong - it's simply "Jag"

Sounds like we might need help from the Vatican on that one!

That's a regional pronunciation.
In England it's Jag-You-Are and Iguana is Ig-You-Ahna.
And heaven knows anything British-sounding is infinitely classier than anything American.
But they also have all kinds of extra letters over there. Not only all those "U"s in words like "splendour" but labOratory and aluminIum. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Isn't that last word pronounced al-u-MIN-e-um ? _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

When I was a teenager Ironside was being shown on BBCtv. We quite liked the way Raymond Burr pronounced most things although accepted that his way was Accepted American Pronunciation. During conversation me and my friends would lapse into our best American accents and try to find new ways of pronouncing words.
Crocodile - Crok- cod-illy
Antelope - An- tel- o -pee
Alligator - Al-ig-utter
How to mess with the mind of an American. Oxford University consists of a number of colleges, I read law and economics here ..
http://www.merton.ox.ac.uk/generalinfo/gen_info.html
One of the colleges is called Magdalen College, read that out loud.
Did you say Mawdlin? You should have.
For the ultimate in entertainment there is a website (no names but you know) upon which the cream of the clueless can be found not only claiming that "I comes from Tupelo but does a mighty fine British accent" but then provide a demo to prove it. A few days ago a very dear friend used a box of Kleenex whilst listening and decided that eye make-up repairs were pointless. Under certain circumstances run-proof mascara is as inadequate a description as "voice talent".

Yeah-- my bad. I was showing off the letter, not the syllable stress.
Re: Magelan= Mawdlin and other recent conversations here:
I was surprised to find "Roentgen" is not pronounced Rent-jen in parts of the medical world, no matter WHAT the dictionary says.
I can't remember what the correct prounciation is, Just that I had to do it over. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I had a room mate for a while who was an older British fellow. Actually, he did all the regional Jaguar commercials. Loved to hear him say aluminum. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Deirdre,
When I worked at a nuclear physics lab in the early 80s, we pronounced it "RENK-en". _________________ Be well,
