ADR = Someone who lives in Los Angeles
Agent = Like a telephonist but only takes calls from casting
directors
Account Executive = A cross between a Havard MBA, a failed movie
director and an enamel bucket.
Backstabber = Close personal friend who is a voice over – See also
ADR
Blogs = A voice over internet posting on voice overs used by voice
over artists to maximise their position in the voice over
google rankings as a voice over.
Close Miker = Artist with noisy children.
Director = Anyone not in the voice over booth during a session.
Enmity = Word responsible for more re-takes than any other.
Focusrite Voicemaster Pro = Preamp and processor with numerous controls the Purpose of which is unclear.
FVO = Like a Snickers, silky, sweet, smooth but mostly nuts.
Garbage = See blogs
Hard sell = Shouting to make dull subject appear interesting.
Imaging = Voice over work for inarticulate individuals who can’t
manage complete sentences.
Internet = Invented by an ex radio DJ turned voice over to pass
time between sessions.
Jingle = Sung radio station ID or commercial designed to boost
tranquilliser sales.
Kipper = Herring (fish) salted and smoked. Whilst waiting to be
eaten they respond to auditions on Voice124.
Lead = Connects audio equipment as opposed to leads which
connect voice overs to work; unless they’re on Voice124
then the Kippers always get the gigs.
MVO = Any male in the USA with a PC and time on their hands.
Neumann = Would be a popular mic in Hollywood except it is not
pretty and looks fat.
Over = The item needing a voice, hence the term voice over.
Producer = 18+. (senior producer 25+)
Residuals = Day dream had by waiters in New York and anyone in
LA
Sennheiser = Manufacturer of the MKH416 mic. Known in
Hollywood as the Cher because it’s long, thin and
made from plastic by a German.
Training = Something a number of Voice Over artist spend a great
deal of money on in order to go back to their studios so
they may do and charge exactly the same.
U87 = Used as a suppository on Orson Welles by a sound engineer
he got fired.
Orson “You’ll never work in this town again”
Engineer “and you’ll never be able to sit in it”
Voice Over = Severe personality disorder
Warmth = Expression used by owners of old/new tube/valve mics
to describe distortion.
X-rated = Responses from pro voices to budgets set by clients of
Voice124.
Yoda = Nickname for voice coaches. Not because of their wisdom
more for the way they ok to be speaking think it is.
Zephyr = Popular name for the ISDN audio codec. Condemned as out dated technology by people who also believe money is over rated.
