|
|
I was answering a job today that gave a number of pages for the script and a word count. I decided to plug those numbers into the Audiobooks numbers on the most recent Voices.com rates page. Something just doesn't seem to match up. Using "per page" gave a rate of $2500.00, going "per word" gave a rate between $133.00 and $670.00. Now, I decided to check on average words per page, and the client wasn't far off with over 600 words per page. That puts it right between font 12, 50 lines per page, and font 14, 43 lines per page. (Times New Roman font)
I know these are only examples, but perhaps I am using the numbers wrong, or just doing something incorrectly. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

What are you using to caluculate a "page"?
Whenever I use "page count" to quote a job I count a page as
Times 12 point
Double-spaced
one-inch margins
Whenever "page count" is mentioned here, those criteria are also mentioned.
If not in the post you're looking at, then in a nearby post.
No matter what, Rick Gordon's word count formula seems to be a superior method. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I don't believe double spaced was in the equation. The sample script was definitely single spaced. Even doubling those numbers still puts them far apart. I'm curious what voices.com used.
I'm not familiar with Rick Gordon's formula. I would prefer to use per word, logically it takes out all the other variables. Thanks for the reference. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

I read your post too fast and mixed up the numbers.
Your figuring is WAY OFF is you're getting more per page by a factor of 10+. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

That's the discrepency. I was using the chart. That's why I think the chart is off. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

I'm just getting back to this as I had another audition looking for a rate. The formulas from that previous post dealing with Rick's formula seems the best way to go.
As to the link to that Voices.com rate sheet...
Voices.com Rate Sheet
Looking further, on that same website they have another rate sheet that doesn't agree with this one.
Rick's is definitely better. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

I am not one to discuss rates - or at least the specifics of the rating formulas; so with that in mind let me put this little cavaet here.
Rates are specific to you, your talent, skills, and time.
This subject is currently being discussed on the audiobook publishers forum at present. The conclusion is that each "reader" sets his or her own rates, based upon the above criteria.
Where you fall in these categories is based upon your background, your needs and desires, and your abilities to get things finished in a timely fashion. How do you rate yourself?
