This coming GDC is March 5-9 in San Francisco.

I was at the GDC last year, and I believe I was the only voice talent person there.

This summer, I submitted a proposal for a VO-focussed lecture, how we can speed the process and help the audio directors get what they need from us. My proposal was shot down in flames, but I had so many enthusiastic responses when I was creating it— from voice casting people, audio engineers and directors, script people, composers!— that I KNOW there is a happy audience for it.

One of my audio pals suggested a "guerilla symposium" at the GDC— do the VO presentation in an informal setting... just tell folks there will be a VO -based presentation and do it in a hallway or lounge somewhere.

I'm going to the GDC anyway, and I've got the stuff all prepped, I figure what the heck? It won't have a lecture hall or Power Point slides, but who cares?

Here's where you can find out about the GCD—be careful, this site's opening page crashes my Safari Browser, so I'm giving you an inner page:
http://www.gdconf.com/conference/

I'll be staying at the Hotel Mosser in San Francisco. A Olde-type place with shared bathrooms.

Mega- w00t!!

sounds like a blast! VO is such a big part of the game i'm really surprized you didn't get a better response. Although i'm not a game player, my son and I often try to guess the voice(s) in the game(s).
There's a lot of talent there!
cheers,
Dave

Definitely would have to be a guerilla-type presentation. It's $5,300 and up to be an exhibitor and registration runs in the $1,000 to $2,000 range. I guess there's a wee bit o' loot being made in the gaming biz.

The presenters are in the lecture halls and conference rooms.
The GDC sends these guys passes, so they're there for free as contributors to the conference.

The guys in the exhibition halls, on the other hand, pay big time to be there.

So, can I get away with just buying the $175 Expo pass? Or do I need to upgrade?

If you want to see the exposition and hang in the hallways with the geeks, it's a good deal. Last year I bought a classic pass and went to 80% of the lectures I wanted and the other 20% of the time I hung out with 100% of the people I wanted.
The parties are where all the deals are made.
That, and standing in line for coffee.
