I'd like to add my Thanksgiving wishes for everyone! We're doing our annual trip to Boston and I'm thankful that we no longer have to deal with airports to make the journey.

A friend of mine says his wife made this over the past weekend and it was the best bird he has ever eaten. He said the white meat was moist and succulent. He gave it an enthusiastic thumbs up. |

Sweet!!
I've got a 5 gallon food-grade bucket I use for beer brewing I'm thinking about soaking the turkey in.
My last round of wort might impart some added flavor to the bird, you think? |

Many blessings and a happy Thanksgiving to all! Some bragging rights here, south of Salt Lake in Sanpete County:
There is a good chance that the Thanksgiving turkeys you enjoy each November and throughout the year come from the Norbest facility in Moroni.
And do thank Sara Josepha Hale, the Mother of Thanksgiving, who encouraged a national day of thanks each year for 17 in a column in a magazine she edited in the mid-1800s. Finally Pres. A. Lincoln declared Thanksgiving as such. Many dates and Thursdays hence, it was settled decades later that this day should be the third Thursday in November. _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
I'm grateful for the many new friends, and the genuine exchanges of sincere help and concern from others here.
I'm NOT grateful for the 5 newscasts I'll be anchoring by myself tomorrow. 'Still not sure how I got the short straw on that one...I'm the only main anchor with kids, and I'm the one working this family holiday. Oh well, no one loves doing scheduling... but whoever laid this one out will get his/her due!!!! (really....not bitter...no no, not me!)

Have a happy Thanksgiving. Eat well and enjoy the family. Toast much, but drink little. Be thankful for the people in your life, because they can never be replaced.

Tom if you do soak the bird in a bucket, make sure you have a way to keep it cold. When I smoke chicken or turkey I brine it first in very, very large ziploc-type bags that I can store in the fridge. _________________ Elaine

Thanks for the tip Elaine!
The recipe tells you to put it in iced-brine to keep it cold so we'll see how it works. |

Happy Thanksgiving! (or as I like to call it... hell with triptophan) My traditions are the same as always. Watch the Macy's Parade on TV to hear Joel do the VO's, dinner with my sister, her husband and mom. That's about an hour and a half. Then home to fall asleep watching football. While these friends of mine go be with their family in Asheville, NC, I get to take care of their two cats. Some time today I'll get a call from my UK friends kidding me about how this isn't a really big holiday for them. LOL Ditto for July 4th. I'll make my typical "Miles Stand-offish" joke.
But my favorite part is tonight. I always watch "Christmas Vacation" to begin the holidays.
Yup..I'm psyched. LOL Happy Giblets to you all! |
