I occasionally rant about the lack of brain power among radio account execs who write their own commercials. I work with a group of radio stations where command of the English language does not seem to be a requirement for employment on the sales staff. So, when the production guy sent me a piece of copy turned in by one of the sales geniuses and told me he thought I'd get a laugh out of it, I wondered how it could possibly stand out against the mountains of dreck we see from them on a regular basis. Turns out, I didn't have to venture beyond the opening two sentences:

"SINCE THE BEGINNING OF TIME, PRECISION AND ACCURACY HAS LED THE WAY. MICHAELANGELO PAINTED THE 16TH CHAPEL WITH PRECISION. "

You know, when I stood in the Sixteenth Chapel, I wondered why they wouldn't let us see the other 15... Wink

I'm thinking we have a contest here for most idiotic statement.

SINCE THE BEGINNING OF TIME, PRECISION AND ACCURACY HAS LED THE WAY.

I'm sorry but some of our ancestors were such klutzes that we're all lucky to be here at all. Oh, and let's not forget the verb agreement in "precision and accuracy HAS led the way."

Quite a mindfield (sic) of idiocy you've got there.

Oh, the entire piece of copy, from the bogus premise, to the atrocious grammar, to the complete omission of any mention of where the client is located, is idiotic. After the "16th Chapel" mention, it goes on to reference "Alexander the Great conquer[ing] new worlds by using a precise military strategy." And this is for a place that does automotive tune-ups.

I'm not even going to get on him for his spelling of "Michaelangelo." At least he didn't put a space between "Michael" and "Angelo."

I know there's a difference between ignorance and stupidity, but some of these sales guys have managed to deftly combine the two. Rolls Eyes "16th Chapel" unseated the previous winner, courtesy of another member of the same sales force: "Egg corn squash."

Had an art history series narration a few months back. I'm sure, according to one of the scripts I received, It's not the 16th Chapel, but the "Pristine" Chapel.
