This was tacked onto a Voice123 lead I got today:

VOICE123 NOTE: THIS HAS BEEN AN EXCEPTION SINCE THIS CLIENT COUNTS ON A BUDGET BELOW THE AVERAGE FOR A PROJECT LIKE THIS. PLEASE FEEL FREE NOT TO PARTICIPATE IN IT IF IT DOES NOT MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS. VOICE123

The budget was $150. What do you think?

I've seen a few of those, with varying budget numbers. I haven't been able to figure out their rationale for including that notice or not including it.

*Sigh*

What market?

There are times—and I know some of my VO brethren and sistern will castigate me for this—where $150 is a nice, fair fee for a spot.

$150 is the going rate for a tv or radio spot around here, for anything from a :15 to a :60.

A bid just came across with the notation "Lowest rate gets the gig!"

I gave them a 1khz tone for a demo and logged this in the bid box: "Lowest fee wins? Quality doesn't matter? Get Lost!"

Think I'll get the gig?

---

I thought the note about the $150 rate was odd. That's a pretty normal rate in smaller markets. I think those V123 guys are still pretty far out of touch with the realities of the business. You think they'd pick some of this stuff up by osmosis at least.

Now that is SPECIAL. I thought about doing somehting similar with that one...instead I hit delete.

Then there was the one tonight for the spec spot. "We'll pay you IF the client bites." Okay. Yeah. Sure. You betcha.
