Not on eBay? There are several Xstreams under $2K on there.

I've searched all the known avenues, eBay included. Bid on one that got away at the last minute for $1325. The rest are as you say, under $2k, but this is a backup unit, so I can afford to shop for a better deal. They happen on occasion. My goal is one under $1500.

Found one on eBay for $1450. Excellent condition. But thanks for the lead Joe!

The falling value of used ISDN equipment speaks volumes about the desirability of ISDN, wouldn't you say? Glad you found a deal to your satisfaction, Rick!

That it may, but the studios I work with continue to use it and if I didn't have it, they wouldn't use me. And while the discussion of the demise continues, as it has for the last couple of years, the fact that I have it as added to my business exponentially. So much so, that I bought this unit as a backup, should the one I have fail prior to a scheduled session.

When extinction finally becomes a reality, I won't regret for one minute relegating them to the bone pile as during the waiting period they have more than paid for themselves.

Video stores started up in the late 70s and the biggest chain finally closed its doors this year.
That was quite a run. As entrenched as the world is with ISDN I don't see it closing its doors for another 10 years.

I'd like to see IP tech take over, but, until networks and agencies that say "if it ain't broke don't fix it" ever decide to change, That will be the day I change too.

I suspect it is more about voices being fit purpose as opposed to technology. Tough fact to swallow for a number of people who have made the investment and seen little or no return.

If I wear a different colour wig I'm still bald.

I agree Eddie. ISDN is going to continue for the high-end jobs. It will still be vital in the Big Three markets in the US (and likely in places like Orlando/Miami as well).

But just as so many of us have tossed out our Gentners and JK phone patches for Skype and Google Hangouts, in a year or two whenever we're in say Portland or New Orleans doing a spot for an agency in Cincinnati, Boston, or Dallas, it's going to be with an IP solution. Yes, we'll have to pay a couple hundred bucks a year to play: a much better bargain than subscribing to the P2Ps.

Just playing devil's advocate, but I do find it interesting the major drop in resale value of ISDN codecs in the last 2 years... A used Xstream was holding steady at around $2500 for a very long time, and a 9202 well north of $1000. I know ISDN will be pried from the cold dead hands of the engineers at NBC/ABC/CBS/Fox.

I'm going to be unloading my 9202 on April Fools Day. I've lined up alternatives, including an ISDN studio nearby that'll play with me on a rate when the gig must go that way, Source Connect, and I've already done jobs through 2 agents using ipDTL. AT&T will continuously escalate its rates until vo talents have had enough and squeeze us out, one by one. Then the studio heads will need to consider the alternatives.

But will the "alternatives" be different technology or different voiceoverists?
