http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ApolloTwinS/

From Winter NAMM 2014. Onboard software controlled hardware preamp settings to emulate other preamps. All hardware inputs can be mapped to all hardware outputs (and there is a headphone out, monitor L/R out, and AUX L/R out) so mix minus should be possible within the unit.

Price tag for the single core interface is really really good (if the preamps sound good) and could completely replace a plethora of gear. Also does onboard processing (hipass, compression, other plugins that VOs don't need) so it looks like it can be your interface, preamp, strip, and mixer.

Anyone messed with the Unison pres?

I definitely get the desire to be a "purist" however, I also believe that technology will eventually catch up. Even if the preamp modeling isn't great, the ability to route inputs to outputs (and have enough outputs) if coupled with a great sounding interface would be awesome for a home studio. You don't HAVE to use the modelling.

Although...there are those who still refuse to record music on anything but tape. To each his/her own.

Don't you mean "To each hiss/her own" Smile

I really like the look of that unit... although I'm more of a "record it as clean as possible and futz with it later" type of guy. I'm getting increasingly frustrated with the lack of good patching on my interface. I want Multiple inputs that I can switch, and configurable monitors/outputs that I can send to various destinations (e.g. ISDN). Ideally I'd like the flexibility to lose the mixer and simplify the chain... this seems to go some way towards this.

It just needs some fins, chrome fenders and a go-faster stripe... then we're set.

It's an impressive piece of kit. I know it's big brother the Apollo Quad quite well. Like the iD22 but with near zero latency processing,

It's impressive alright, although It seems like it may be overkill for VO..next question; will it play nicely with source connect?...I know the Focusrite Forte has issues with SC, although I don't know if they have them straightened out

I'll let ya know about SC. I did order one. The prospect of being able to travel with my full setup was very exciting. Add the possibility of a solid pre (which I was planning to buy anyway) is also exciting. I talked with a very knowledgeable technology at Sweetwater and the emulation actually includes physical electronic variables as well as software emulation (which has not been done as far as I know). Reviews of the software versions of the gear emulated with the included package are very impressive so we shall see.

Even if it isn't great, he said that the internal pres and converters are on par with (or better than) anything out as far as cleanliness and silence. So at very worst I can replace a few pieces of gear and have a super solid and clean signal.

Should be here Thursday, so I'll do some testing.

Actually I checked with SC support and they said there were no issues with the Forte. I think it was the Scarlett that was having SC issues.
