Slightly OT, but I thought you might be interested in a short commentary piece from the folks at CBS Sunday Morning about "vocal fry", the terrible squeaky-scratchy noise that many of America's younger women are making these days:

Want Vocal Fries With That?

Eeww.

OMG, Bruce! Like, fer sure, this is so TOTALLY not off-topic!

Seriously, my wife and I comment all the time about how flippin' annoying this trend is. And that's probably an understatement. I can't wait til it passes on.

Eh, a little vocal fry has its place -- I use it from time to time, and it's won me jobs. It's just another tool in my bag o' tricks...

However, a LITTLE fry goes a long way. A concept the Kardashians are not familiar with...

Nice to see Lake Bell featured in some of the clips, not that anybody not already aware of "In A World" would notice. I think the reporter had way too much fun doing that piece. Wink

That piece was funny. I, too, use it for some work but then I leave it behind. Gag me with a spoon.

It's soooo aggravaaating. And tooootally over done. ick. I also wonder (as a female VO who does use it on occasion as Kristin mentioned- it's in the bag of tricks (give the clients what they want - to a point)...but it's got to cause some kind of damage to your vocal chords over time, no?
