I'm married to a tuba player who used to be a band teacher and has performed in wind ensembles his whole life. Brass players don't talk to woodwinds, I learned that!

That's hilarious! I'm married to a band/orchestra director who's a clarinetist!

Ah, but do you talk to each other?

What kind of tuba do you have?

DH has a King 2341 Bb flat. Bought it at Baltimore Brass lo these many years ago.

Back before I wised up and got an education degree, I majored in music history in college. Spent four years studying the roots of our music. Now I spend my days being and playing an astronomer on-mic and off.

Older Miraphone 86 5V C here. We all should bring our axes to a gathering sometime and play some quartet music.

My former tuba professor posted this video on facetube a bit ago about how a tuba is made. Make sure you have the sound up to hear some rockin' music!

A Tuba Quartet.

Mind. Blown. (also... it's just a little frightening)

Well, when she can stand the sound of my voice we do...I play a "Frankenstein" it's a rotary CC. based on a 186, with a different bell. Has a good bit of custom work done to it, I'm actually looking at getting another Frankenstein based on a 2341 body, with a York bell, also in CC. Music History always interested me much more than Theory. It's much more important in understanding why you're playing what you are on the page.

LOVE the 186. Such a malleable and facile instrument. Here's my favorite piece for tuba quartet...played by a few heavy hitters... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxkRbhUeDFM

I looked online but was unsuccessful in finding the video clip from Police Squad that contained this quote: "well, Southern California is the tuba capital of the world. Acme Tuba, Tuba World, Tubas 'R' Us, International House of Tubas, Tuba Or Not Tuba, Tuba Ligation."

Oh, Please, Lee, not with the tuba puns. I get them enough around here.

Tuba or not tuba.
