My advice re connectivity - pick USB over FireWire if possible. FireWire interfaces tend to be more finicky to get working properly. I know this from experience, having worked with George Whittam for weeks trying to "fix" my Echo AudioFire interface. I loved the sound, but the Echo FireWire drivers were a pain in the ass. Ended up selling it and getting the Focusrite USB interface. Don't just listen to me - George prefers USB over FireWire whenever possible. George - maybe you want to weigh in?

+1 and USB is plenty fast for any dual channel interface (of which you will almost never use more than one)

I had issues with the Echo Audiofire, too. When it worked (ie. not recording clicks and static) it sounded great. But the randomness of the issues made me crazy. I still have it and need to sell it.

That's computer crap for ya...my Echo Audiofire has been flawless for me, as opposed to my (USB) Lexicon Lambda, which gave me all sorts of fits with unwanted audio "noises."

Now what I DID do before buying the Echo was to buy a PCI firewire card with the TI chipset to avoid any issues.

Having said that, I'd have no prob going USB again....I just think that computer and the Lambda just didn't like each other.
