Such amazing information from all of you, I am eternally grateful. Friends and family just choose a name, they don't see the internal elements that you guys do. Which is understandable because they are not VO/VA professionals.

When people hear my work, the average response is "OH WOW! That sounds really awesome/cool!" so, that does me no good.

I would love to wait for people to name me, but this could take years and I don't have any professional work and have never been hired for anything. I can't wait that long, I need to use social media as a tool to market myself and store all of my vocal takes, information, etc. If I am suddenly feeling creative, I can do a quick recording and throw it up on YouTube to show friends, family, and you guys for critique and improvement. Not only can I show all of these people without sending them huge files, it could potential gain traction with people around the world. Social Media is a very powerful tool and I would be foolish to not start off the line with it in my arsenal.

I would use my own name, YouTube.com/KyleDuffy, except that it is taken on all social media networks, which has led me to create some kind of funky name. Because I will be on social networks, I need something that appeals to not only VO professionals, but the average person as well. Perhaps I should use half of my real name and make up the second half, a half that isn't already registered on Social Media. For example, "JennaMarbles", her name is Jenna, but the last name is her dog. However, everyone thinks this is her real name and it isn't, but she is the only one with this name.

I could potentially use my first and last name with my middle initial? don't get my wrong, if I signed up with "DuffyDubs" I won't announce myself as that, "Hey guys, I am Duffy Dubs and I do voices." that is a no-no. I like to think of it like a business name. "Hey I am Kyle Duffy and welcome to my YouTube page, DuffyDubs, where I post all of my VO work" this may not be a great thing, but that's how I was thinking about it.

There is so much to consider. All I know is I can't wait years to get a name for myself when I need it now as a way to promote myself. Perhaps I am still wrong.

You are absolutely right that you don't need to wait years, and that Social Media is a powerful tool. Were I you, I would start brainstorming on your unique qualities, and probably not use your dog's name. Wink What do you want clients to know about you? There are a million conversations going on online every day, and you have to set yourself apart from all of that noise, without a bullhorn, and in a way that is uniquely you.

Just let me stress again, as others have said, that it's vital to be sure your sound lives up to any image you put out there. That will get you canned faster than anything else, however slick your image may be.

Kyle * Duffy

Where * is your middle initial... or a fake one that scans nicely. Maybe a "C", so you can adopt "KC" later (joking... slightly). Get one you can claim on social media... maybe a "D", so you're Kyle D Duffy (then you can be Kyle "Dub" Duffy when appropriate (however rare that may be Smile) Make it something you can live with, that scans nicely and is available as a handle.

Just my $0.02 ... and probably overpriced at that.

Who are you trying to reach with your social media outreach...the average person, the VO professional...

or the client with the checkbook.

If it be the latter, I think some great opinions have been given here regarding both duff and dubs.
