While I would always suggest that taking the high road outta town is the best route according to the map section of 'Careerquest'. I do believe, However, before we all take that final dirt nap, each of us is entitled to at least one, "F*&#k you! I quit dis bitch!" _________________ www.voiceoverdrew.com

The last station I worked for was a wonderful place, owned and operated by terrific people and the crew was a bunch of talented and genuinely good people. I told the GM that if he couldn't give me a raise - the least he could do would be to fire me. I liked the job itself and all the people so much that leaving would just be too difficult. He said "Okay - you're fired. Wanna finish out the month?" I did it, and on my last day, I made no comments about leaving and did not say goodbye.
I came up with a strong offer from another Denver station and was given an appointment to meet with some corporate guy from out of town - his company had just bought the property and was trying to put a bunch of new pieces together and see if it could be made to run - on the appointed day I showed up. I was greeted by a nice young woman that I took to be the receptionist. She asked me a bunch of questions and I answered them truthfully. I told her that the changes Mr. XXX made and was making sounded great and I anticipated great success - - but that I noticed that some rather strange things had been popping up over the last couple of days, and that I was concerned about the wisdom of some of those things.
It turns out that the man I had earlier contact with had left the company and this young woman was his replacement - - and she was interviewing me, without my understanding who she was and what she was doing.
I did not get the job. And at that, I lasted almost as long as she did. |

I love radio, but it attracts more AHs than any other job I've worked in. Why is that, do you think? I had some really bad experiences and some of the best times of my life in radio, but that ship has sailed for me. No way would I go back. _________________ Enjoy life, this is not a rehearsal.

Gee, and I thought they were all in TV. In radio, too.? So many A-holes, and so few jobs in broadcasting, I guess. _________________ www.voiceoverdrew.com

It's the personality type broadcasting attracts. I only know of one profession that attracts as many or more destructive personalities: Law enforcement. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

You know what they say:
"Those who can do;
those who can't do - teach;
those who can't teach - administrate;
those who can't administrate - go into politics;
those who can't go into politics - become radio or television people;
those who can't do any of the previous - are Voice Over Talent..."

Wow.
I'm a TV person and p/t VOer. Plus I'm married to a teacher that's going into administration.
The shame.
Should I run for city council? |

Nope, start with the school board so you can be accused of living on the public dole and double dipping! |

It doesn't speak highly of me, but one day I encountered someone from the Hole family pitching a fit before an airshift. I said, "You know, you're not really talented enough to be this temperamental."

I usually found the air talent and the traffic people great to work with, however the suits were another story. They've ruined radio, IMHO. I like to listen to the college stations now, they're amateurish but at least they have some character! _________________ Enjoy life, this is not a rehearsal.
