I really don't have anything to add to the excellent advice already given, but wanted to add my welcome note - Welcome aboard Steve
P.S. I also find the headphones distracting, but try to use them once in awhile anyway (sometimes they give me a little more volume if I need it - which I usually don't since I'm normally too loud : _________________ Back into the murky lurk from whence I came

Steve,
The reason I suggest the "loudness" exercise is that it also teaches breath control. Later, you can re-learn the "whisper" technique, but first you need to control your presentation.
Free advice is worth what you pay for it. Even my suggestions are to be taken with a grain of salt. So do as you please, and keep working on the your VO style.

Philip, I misread your instruction. I thought you said Hare. It's been a most interesting afternoon. |

Let's see... "Put a Hake in your boxers."
Is that Top Tip #47 or #48? _________________ "Bailey"

Welcome, Steve. Lots of great info here - do you have a VO coach as of yet? |

Halibut. Both Hake and Halibut are inherently humorous. Cod can be, but in a false way. A Cod piece in your boxers may send the wrong message, and lends itself to exaggeration... which is what we're trying to avoid here. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

That's cake. CAKE!!! As the new guy, Steve, if you're even reading this - you get to bring CAKE!
Make it chocolate and ignore hakes and halibuts and bankseys and bishes.
