Jeff, the "Play" button becomes a "pause" button once it starts playing. I use the exact same player on my site.

On my iMac, yes...but not on the iPad. In fact, the player looks quite different on the iPad: it's a simple black bar with a play button in the center. Once you click "play," the play button is replaced by the "Q" from the Quicktime logo, and there is no way to stop the audio playing. (Other than Bailey's brilliant suggestion, of course.)

That player is the HTML 5 player from Long Tail. I will have to do some sniffing about to see if I can convince it to stop playing. On my iPhone, I get a new page with a whole set of controls. Thanks for the reports about the iPad.
And regarding the "click to view" thing—
I'd totally prefer to NOT have that bit of "instruction", speaking as a designer.
HOWEVER—I have found that even established viewers will click the wrong thing or click nothing at all unless specifically instructed, If there is a way for people to miss or mess up something , it's going to happen.
If that movie is taking too long to load for everyone, I may need to host it elsewhere.
