The Avid Mbox Pro is very good, but WAY overkill for what you said your needs are.

Could very well be, but on the other side of the coin, when I find myself buying for my 'needs' in a field with which I'm heavily involved, I find myself utilizing all that I have quickly, and wanting to push forward but not having the means. I do a lot of multi-track recording. I didn't start out that way, but with Pro Tools and experience, over the years it has evolved.

It's a personal thing, but for me, I look at it as 'expandability' rather than overkill. Since getting the Mbox 3 Pro, I have tested and used that expandability in a variety of ways I had never thought of because I had the availability to try things.

Experience has taught me that paying marginally extra for expandability, is far less expensive than ditching an outgrown but good piece of equipment and ending up buying the one I talked myself out of in the first place.

That's what happens when I forget to mention who my comment was directed to, in this case the "treadjacker" Leslie Humble. Sorry, Rick!
For need I am sure it is the right tool for the job.

I agree that the AudioFire2 is excellent if you want to go firewire. It was my interface for a few years before I decided to go with USB on a better computer. The M-Audio Fast Track Ultra I use now has been great too.

Just the sound Rick is getting makes me appreciate the Mbox 3 Pro. Highly detailed high end and good round bottom along with that Martech. It sounds stellar Rick. As does the talent behind it. I am also using the 416 as well as a U67 clone.

And since George has outed me as a low life threadjacker ( I do hope the Captain got his hiss problem cleared uHobo Happy perhaps I can get the Vice Presidency
of "Threadjackers Union Local 420")

I have ordered a EchoAudioFire2 because I do not need PreAmps and do not intend to multitrack record outside the box. Rick, I am assuming you are doing some music stuff? But I may still end up getting the Mbox 3 Pro. Really loved the sound and I will A/B them.

Lance is there any specifice reason you decided to use USB over Firewire?

I went with USB 2.0 because I was able to get a nice HP Vista 64 computer that's fast/powerful and records great for only $800. I can have my wireless, anti-virus programs, Google Voice or Skype, Adobe Audition (with video!) and all kinds of things open simultaneously with no dropouts or glitches and it all sounds great. I vetted the machine for being good for audio - but it just doesn't play nicely with firewire (it doesn't have TI chipsets, for one thing). I like the pres in the FTU also, so when I travel, I can just go Senn MK4>FTU>HP Laptop. All fits in one lil' bag.

FWIW - Digi-002's can be had for a very reasonable price these days. Now that we're up to PT-10 you can use just about any interface you want.
