Verizon $62 p/month + MCI LD $25p/month and I just noticed that includes a $6 international plan. Hmmm maybe I can remove that. |

Mine just went from $78 to $90 in LA. I'll be interested to see what it is in Salem. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I know it seems ridiculous, but this resistance is exactly what I ran into at CBS trying to get "The Insider" and "ET" using Source Connect with Randy Thomas.
Plenty of VO's travel and use SC on a regular basis, and in almost no case do they have the ability map ports. SC will usually negotiate without mapping ports, but not always. Mapping is best whenever possible, but usually unnecessary. Yeah, it's annoying. Why must they do it and Skype can handle working fine without this step? _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Mine's $52 (I cancelled my long distance a couple of years ago because I never dial out). The range in pricing is really shocking! _________________ the Amy Snively family of brands for all your branded thing needs.

And don't forget to call a competing Long Distance carrier and complain about your monthly retainer rate and see what they offer. Then take that number back to your current provider and see if they can match or beat it. I got my Sprint monthly down to $7.50 last year.
And in case you're new to this, there are only 3 companies that can handle ISDN long distance reliably, Sprint, MCI, and ATT.

And on the MCI end it has to be a certain flavor of LD. Not the MCI Worldcom one. There's a code. |

I have never once had a situation where I was able to use Source Connect through a fire-walled router at a hotel or otherwise, where I didn't have to map the ports to get it to work. _________________ Joe Szymanski

Joe--How do you map ports? The hotel tech staff does it? Hefty gratuities all around? |

Never actually took the time to track someone down at a hotel or time-share since I figured it'd be a dead end. I believe George has done this though so he'd know the best way to go about it. At home or any place you have access to the router, it's easy. Just log into your router and set up the port forwarding for ports 6000-6002 for the computer you're using. _________________ Joe Szymanski

Bruce, et al;
Century Link (a.k.a.: Qwest) still offers LD for ISDN at rates of around $5.00 + $ .05 per minute/per line. FWIW

Sadly, I've been there and done that, about 2 years ago in Arizona. It failed miserably. Qwest just doesn't have the guaranteed bandwidth (or whatever is different versus the big 3 LD providers) cross country to handle it.

Wait Joe--I'm confused--Maybe I'm misreading your initial post. I thought you were saying that you've always found it necessary to have ports mapped when you're in a hotel and using SC. Is that right? But then, you spoke of only port mapping when you were home or had access to the router--ie, not in a hotel where the router is inaccessible. So I'm like, Huh? |
