Don't undervalue what you have. This guy went the extra step to contact you so he's already halfway there. Now you just need to get him the other half so he see's that your voice is the one he really wants. Stay firm and try to overcome any objections he might have. He wants your voice, he just hasn't gotten out of his own way to understand he'll pay a fair rate to get it. Be firm, he'll get there. |

I've seen those same rate sheets on V123 and then all the "budgets" on the requests I was getting and they most definitely don't have anything to do with each other. My dilemma comes in when a request for quote is made and it's listed as "open" and I think...should I bid something along the low end (because I'm still pretty new) of the rate sheet - or go more towards the higher end of what most folks seem to budget? Typically I do something in between. The only real high budgets I've seen have usually come from companies that only want you if you live in their area or something. Guess I'll just keep tending my garden too and go with the flow for now...... _________________ Life is what happens when you're making other plans. |

My $0.02: Get away from the "bid mentality" that V123 seems based upon. Though it's hard to feel otherwise while looking at jobs on the site, stop thinking of yourself as part of the herd. Quote a fair but reasonable rate. As Banksey said here once, anyone can outbid you on a job; but the voice of Tammy is available from only one source, and at a price Tammy determines.
I've missed out on many jobs by quoting a price over a client's budget; we all have. Amazingly, I've managed to acquire an agent and am still getting outside work. Do I owe it to being the lowest bidder? Nope. _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice. For Voice Talking and stuff.

You know I was thinking that at the rate y'all help folks, you must be racking up some serious good Karma points....yup - It's offical, I'm gonna start hanging out at this site a lot! T
hanks again David,

You're welcome, Tammy. Just to be sure, I'm not coming from a high horse. I've worked for less-than-ideal rates on a few occasions, particularly when I felt the exposure/networking aspect was worth it. My point is that VO talents shouldn't use that as their primary way of thinking.
In other words: I think if you decide to take a low rate on a job, you should make sure you do so for your own reasons and not because you feel it's the only way to get work. _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice. For Voice Talking and stuff.
